NO. 7 ORANGE LUTHERAN (7-2, 3-1) VS. NO. 2 MATER DEI (7-2, 4-0)
Site, time: Santa Ana Stadium, Thursday, 7:30 p.m.
Outlook: It went this way in the Trinity League in 2006 and '07: Mater Dei beat Servite, Servite beat Orange Lutheran, and Orange Lutheran beat Mater Dei. So far this year, Mater Dei beat Servite and Servite beat Orange Lutheran. Mater Dei looks ready to put the shears to that pattern this year. Yes, most of the ocvarsity.com top 10 voters and a coach-of-year candidate's dad, also an excellent coach, have kindly and wisely expressed their opinion Tesoro is the best team in the county. But my vote for No. 1 has been for Mater Dei the past two weeks.
The Monarchs have established an outstanding offensive balance, now that they run the ball so effectively. Their defense has come around, too. Lutheran is a very good team, and is going to be a formidable foe in this one and in the Pac-5 playoffs. But Mater Dei should accomplish the near-impossible – make your Frankly Fryer guy look like he knows what he's talking about.
Winner: Mater Dei
MORE FRANKLY FRYER: WEEK 10
I agree. Mater Dei should beat OLU tonight. This game has become an even greater rivalry than Mater Dei Servite and it's on television for all to see. Both teams are going to take no prisoners. Let's hope both teams play as well as they can play and the officiating is consistant on both sides of the football.
This should be one of the best games of the season. But I think Mater Dei is just a bit better overall at this stage of the season but it may come down to who wants it the most and plays with the most emotion.
Sorry Mr. Fryer, but I will have to disagree with you on this one. I have seen MD, OLU, and Servite play this year and history will repeat itself, OLU will win by at least 14 pts. I can't wait to see who's prediction comes true...
Let's hope the Monarchs make you look like a genius!!! GO MONARCHS!
Well Mr. Fryer
This one could be intesting if both teams play mistake free, but the problem I see is that O Lu does not have the disipline this year. I seen most of there games and they shoot themselfs in the foot with penilties and fumbles. it's been a long time since coach kunau has had a team that can't stop making mistakes. I can't figure this team out.
Well said big daddy.
Still looking for O Lu to show some fire when they play.....
I agree with my son Jim H
I would be surprised if any one team dominated the other tonight. I think both teams will play with passion, but it will definitely come down to who can play better defense. Who will protect the ball? Who will turnover the ball? All I know is that I can't wait to see this game. It will be a packed house at the SA Bowl.
Haha again your wrong again Fryer we beat them tonight that was a hard nose beat down now maybe we @ O LU can be at our proper place in the rankings number ! we beat Tesoro last year we crushed them they are weak I believe we have another CIF Title headed our way.
"Who will protect the ball? Who will turnover the ball?." Olu had some lucky breaks in terms of interceptions that could have changed the course of the game. It came down to the wire like I thought. Great offense from both teams, but defense was key. Olu has a great coaching staff. They really know how to break down a game. Tremendous effort from the Monarchs; played hard right down to the last play. Good luck to both teams in the playoffs.
