NO. 10 NEWPORT HARBOR (6-3, 2-2) VS. NO. 6 LOS ALAMITOS (8-1, 3-1)
Site, time: Gahr High of Cerritos, Thursday, 7 p.m.
Outlook: Both teams are in must-win situations in this Sunset League game. Especially Newport Harbor. Sure, Los Alamitos could lose and still make the playoffs, but there are scenarios by which the Griffins could not finish third or higher, a prerequisite for getting a guaranteed berth in the Pac-5 Division playoffs. A fourth-place team in the Sunset will have to hope for an at-large berth, and the feeling here is that the Pac-5's one at-large berth is going to a team from the Serra or Trinity.
Newport Harbor has won two consecutive league games, against Marina and Esperanza. Los Alamitos beat Esperanza by one point last week, after losing to Fountain Valley the previous week. The difference-maker player in this game could be Los Alamitos quarterback Clark Evans, a top threat throwing or running. He also has a heck of a playmaking receiver, Paul Richardson.
Winner: Los Alamitos
