The Calhoun Six to Watch: Servite vs. St. John Bosco

November 11th, 2008, 7:08 pm · 6 Comments · posted by Damian Calhoun, OCVarsity.com since 2004

No. 3 Servite (6-3, 3-1) vs. St. John Bosco (7-2, 2-2)

Friday, 7:30 p.m. at Cerritos College

Outlook: St. John Bosco will know its playoff fate before it hits the field Friday night.

Bosco needs for Orange Lutheran to defeat Mater Dei Thursday and then it has to defeat Servite. Bosco has already lost to the Monarchs and the Lancers.

Servite has a simple road: All it has to do is defeat Bosco and the Lancers are in.

Servite has won three consecutive games since losing to Mater Dei in the league opener. The Friars are allowing 9.6 points a game in those games.

The Friars are going to have their work cut out for them against Bosco quarterback Keith Price. Aside from his otherworldly numbers, Price, who is supposedly reconsidering his commitment to Washington, has been contained in Bosco’s two league losses.

The Lancers sacked him four times and intercepted two passes, and the Monarchs sacked him six times.

Can Servite’s defense get to Price?

the real question, is are the Bosco coaches too dumb to play alex fletcher or do they think their five rushing yards before half time last week will be good enough against servite?

  • JoseGonzalez says:

This will be an interesting game to watch (Servite vs Bosco). Bosco had some major issues in execution during the Mater Dei match up, especially the 2 fumbles in the first quarter were hard to watch. Bosco's defense shut out the Monarchs on the 2nd & 3rd quarters and part of the early 4th quarter but ultimately a defense which has played hard and slowed down, whereby the Monarchs capitalized on 14 more points. In regards to Cameron's statement to Alex Fletcher; there are 11 positions in this game and if all execute error free then that team wins; Alex Fletcher is a good football player but all eleven players (ofensively and defensively) must play in concert to secure the game. Also, the comment of " Bosco coaches too dumb", please let's keep the comments in a positive note.

  • Servite can't afford to lose this game. The Friars will be ready. Just can't see them losing to Bosco after Bosco lost to Mater Dei and O. Lu.

  • Dana says:

If Mater Dei wins and Bosco beats Servite there is a three way tie for 2nd place at 3-2 between Servite, Bosco, and O-Lu. Why is Bosco out at that point? All three will have a win and loss against the other two so head-to-head is out. Was there a coin flip? What's the second criterea for placement and aren't there 2 at-large in Pac-5?

  • Tom O says:

Teams that have big time QB's that can throw seem to light up Servite. If they don't chase Price around like O-Lu and MD did they could go down by 14 at some point during the game because Price can make some BIG plays. Servite isn't a great catch-up team unless the score is tight. That being said Servites D is way to good to lose this game to Bosco and probably wins by 2-3 scores.

well first off bosco came off a rough start against mater dei...... and i like to thank boscos coaching staff for NOT playing fletcher who was by the way 1st team all moore league good job please just not use him... and how are u going to stop boscos offense with price and fletcher???? [ if fletcher actually plays] bosco will-beat servite... but if the coaching staff again does not make a BIG MISTAKE...

if bosco does not make the playoffs this year with arguably the most dynamic QB keith price in so cal... they are going to have to make some BIG changes next year with coaching
