The Calhoun Six to Watch: Edison vs. Esperanza

November 11th, 2008, 7:08 pm · 8 Comments · posted by Damian Calhoun, OCVarsity.com since 2004

No. 4 Edison (7-2, 3-1) vs. No. 12 Esperanza (6-3, 2-2)

Friday, 7 p.m. at Orange Coast College

Outlook: There is a possibility of the Sunset League finishing in five-way tie with Los Alamitos, Newport Harbor, Edison, Esperanza and Fountain Valley all ending up 3-2. That would be amazing and crazy all at the same time.

The Chargers escaped last week’s Bell Game with Fountain Valley with a 14-7 victory thanks to a pair of late touchdown passes from Matt Viles. This game is certain to be just as physical and low scoring.

Edison had trouble getting its running game on track against Fountain Valley and it could be difficult against the Aztecs.

Edison won last year’s meeting, 9-7.

The Aztecs have to be kicking themselves for losing a 21-7 third quarter lead to Los Alamitos last week. Now they’re in a must-win and in-need-of-help situation.

The Aztecs will rely on their running game led by Jared Moore.

Can the Aztecs rebound? That 3-2 five-way tie is out there on the horizon. Will it happen?

Edison will not be able to run against Esperanza and the Aztecs won't be able to run against the Chargers. It comes down to who has the best passing attack? My guess is the surf ciity boys from Edison in this by two TD's.

  • It's hard to imagine Edison losing this one. At the same time, nothing would make the Aztecs season by upsetting the Chargers. Esperanza will let it all out.
I just think Edison's experience in big games this year already will carry them.

for the first time in my life i hope the chargers win, which i think they will, by 10

Espy left it all on the field last week AT HOME vs their arch rivals Los Al after getting blown up by NH the week before. In the end they held 60-45 plays run advantage, yardage gained advantage and still lost it in the last 2 drives to a team that can PLAY CATCH UP BY PASSING. Isn't what Edi did vs FV? Teams that can throw it are never out of two touchdown games. Espy won't have enough gas in the tank to take the Chargers. Edi can tackle, they're aggressive, smart, well coached and will give L # 4 to the Aztecs. Tough year Aztecs. My suggestion: less time in the weight room, more time learning a passing offense in the off-season.

Edison when healthy is as good as any team in the County this year, that said they never seem to be healthy but still manage to win the games they need to, Esperanza is Esperanza, huge strong lineman and a good running back or two and very little passing game, both defenses are solid and will give the other teams offenses trouble, Edison just has a few to many weapons on offense and coach White will find a way to use them all to some level of success, I'll take Edison in a low scoring hard hitting smashmouth football game but wouldn't be to suprised to see a fired up desperate Esperanza Team pull off the upset

  • hiramv says:

  • fealofani says:
