Albano: Mater Dei rolling but Tesoro still my No. 1

November 10th, 2008, 8:27 am · 3 Comments · posted by DAN ALBANO, ocvarsity.com

As I worked on my top-10 ballot for this week's county football poll, I gave some thought to Mater Dei's impressive run.

Since their loss to Edison, the Monarchs are 4-0 with convincing victories over Servite and last week, St. John Bosco. But I'm sticking with the Tesoro Titans and Preston King (left) as the county No. 1 heading into Week 10.

Tesoro plays explosive Dana Hills, and Mater Dei takes on nemesis Orange Lutheran.

Here's my vote:

1. Tesoro
2. Mater Dei
3. Servite
4. LosAl
5. Edison
6. Orange Lutheran
7. Mission Viejo
8. Fountain Valley
9. Newport Harbor
10. San Clemente

When oh when will the CIF wise up and put Oaks Christian, a football factory, in a top division where they might have competition? I watched them slaughter Santa Clara, a supposed quality opponent Friday night 50-6. This is their top competition? Enrollment means nothing to CIF religious schools because parents will shop for the "moral' education of their kids, so Oaks with an enrollment of 400 at most can kill schools with enrollments of three thousand. I felt sorry for the Oaks Christian opponents who had one of the best running backs in Southern California get literally beaten into submission by bigger stronger and quicker kids. This "great" running back was afraid of being killed and consequently did nothing. Probably cost himself a Division I scholarship.

If the rest of the Oaks Christian brethren are as pompous and misinformed as YOU are, sir, I would truly be surprised. Rest assured that Cierre Wood won't have his Notre Dame scholarship revoked, and also that teams like Mater Dei, JSerra, O-Lu, Bosco, and Servite would put a hole through Oaks Christian so large, that you could drive your pompous-mobile right through it. Stay where you are, and leave the quality games to the quality people.

  • Yes , I agree with you OC Football Guy. I live in Ventura County. I've follwed the Oaks Christian program since it's inception. I would like to know why the "football factory" Oak C. Lyons declined to play their nieghbor St. Bonaventure this year???? I can answer that, they don't have the talent to even compete with Bonnie, nor Tesoro, or the other teams mentioned. BRING it ON so Called Football factory!!
