Now, what was everyone waiting for? Oh, yeah, the Southwest shakeup.
Last week, No. 3 La Habra defeated No. 1 Fullerton 24-7, and many expected the Highlanders to take over the No. 1 spot in the new poll.
Right? Right? Wrong. Check out how the coaches and selected media members voted in this week's poll.
1. Foothill (Sea View) 8-1
2. La Habra (Freeway) 7-2
3. Western (Orange) 7-2
4. Fullerton (Freeway) 7-2
5. Tustin (Century) 6-3
6. Cypress (Empire) 6-3
7. Valencia (Empire) 7-2
8. Canyon (Century) 5-4
9. Trabuco Hills (Sea View) 5-4
10. Pacifica (Garden Grove) 5-4
Others: Santa Ana Valley (Orange) 5-4; El Dorado (Century) 4-5
OTHER O.C. DIVISIONS:
NON-O.C. DIVISIONS
I knew it. La Habra will never see #1. They could beat USC and still wouldn't be ranked #1.
And Western #3 ? Above two teams (Tustin & Fullerton) that beat them !?
Madness I tells yous! Madness!
My first reaction is to be irrate but these rankings are trash. We all know who is number 1. Highlanders baby.Playoffs will tell the real story. If LH is ranked 1 or 10 we will win CIF again no one is in our league in the Southwest Division.
just wait and let us all c who wins this
section
foothill or fullerton couldnt even hold LA HABRAS jockstraps so give me a break ps see you in cif quite talking smack fullerton and foothill
the only person talking smack are u guys(la habra)
No true LH fan or player would come on this forum and talk trash about any team deserving of their ranking in this division. The people who decide the rankings seem to base their vote on W-L records. I do not believe that strength of schedule and head to head statistics are mixed into the equation. Foothill has proven to be a very good football team as well as other teams in the division. Eventually the two best teams will meet in the final. I know many LH fans and players hold a great deal of respect for the top teams in the Southwest division. So lets stop all of the trash talking and let the players and coaches from the division prove who is king of the hill.
now after thursday night when we beat VP we should be atleast be number 7 because its gonna be a big win for canyon
THIS IS GONNA BE ONE TO REMEMBER... DON'T LISTEN TO THESE ANTI-FOOTBALL NOWLEDGE FOLKS ON HERE.. I ACTUALLY DO FEEL THAT IS THE RIGHT RANKING.. I DON'T KNOW WHY EVERYONE IS HATING.. LIKE YA SAID JUST W8 TILL PLAYOFFS COME AND WE WILL SEE WHO WINDS UP IN THE TOP SPOT... FOOTHILL, LA HABRA, WESTERN, FULLERTON, TUSTIN,.... CYPRESS/VALENCIA WILL FIGHT FOR SIX BUT THESE SIX TEAMS ARE GONNA BE THE LAST TEAMS STANDIN'.. WE WILL SEE WHO WILL TAKE OUT WHO...
Ay man all you nuckas dont know whats good with this dont trip its all good you dont know whats with dat rankings baby dont trip one love thizz or die
No one is talking trash all the schools in the top 10 deserve to be there.Just LH is better then them all . Facts not fiction
imma laugh when eldo meets you in the playoffs and works la habra!!
haha can you say 3 time CIF champs??
La Habra and Foothill are the class of the SW Division. If both teams play well and meet in the championships it could be a phenominal game. But, we have to finish the regular season and get through the early rounds of the playoffs without injury or upset. Tustin is strong, Fullerton and Western can beat some people and don't be surprised if Canyon or Trabuco shocks someone early. No, I am not crazy. They are better than records imply. Go Knights!
La Habra,s defence pounded fullerton! they were not that good and if u stop hillman then u get quezada and if u stop quezada then u get hillman! no one in the division can stop both! the defence has no stand out there just all hard noise players who like t hit! # 8 is a beast and i saw #3 everywhere on the field! la habra,s d line is pretty good!
hs fan#2, WHERE ON EARTH DID YOU GET YOUR EDUCATION... I KNOW SPELL CHECK IS NOT AVAILABLE BUT DUDE YOU NEED SOME HELP... A COMMA IS NOT AN APOSTROPHE , AND DEFENCE IS SPELLED DEFENSE...("La Habra,s defence pounded fullerton!")HARD NOISE PLAYERS??? DO YOU MEAN HARD NOSED PLAYERS??? LA HABRA HIGH SCHOOL AT ITS FINEST... AT LEAST THE FOOTBALL TEAMS BETTER THAN THE EDUCATION...JUST A THOUGHT...
Hey Damian. PaCIFica is in the Empire League now! But we'll be just fine back in the Garden Grove League! Let's see PaCIFica's 1st senior class was 1970. Thay went on to totally dominate the Garden Grove League for 30 year's! with League Title's:70-72-73-74-75-76-77-78-79... I can go on but you get the picture, right? The G.G.U.S.D. forced the Football team out of the G.G. L. in the 80's and again in 2005! So whatever League PaCIFica's in they will that Title!!! Long Live the 1978 CRUNCHBUNCH, 11-1-1, G.G.L.Co - Champ's, CIF Finalist's.
LA HABRA IN SOUTHWEST YEAH
CIF Champ will come from Century. None of you have seen a healthy Tustin.
"La Habra this, and La Habra that.." If La Habra is going to take CIF they have a tough road around Foothill, and Tustin, Those two teams are on fire. They can do it, but it will not be the breeze that many think.
watch out and go ahead and over look the highlanders ps foothill talk smack like we know you do and i hope we see you in the playoffs so we can tax that ass
The top seven teams remained the same. Mission Viejo and Servite both jumped up one spot.
We’re getting closer to what is going to be an unpredictable playoff.
1. Long Beach Poly (Moore) 9-0
2. Notre Dame (Serra) 9-0
3. Tesoro (South Coast) 9-0
4. Orange Lutheran (Trinity) 7-2
5. Los Alamitos (Sunset) 8-1
6. Edison (Sunset) 7-2
7. Mater Dei (Trinity) 7-2
8. Mission Viejo (South Coast) 8-1
9. Servite (Trinity) 6-3
10. Bishop Amat (Serra) 7-2
Others: Compton (Moore) 7-1; St. John Bosco (Trinity) 7-2; Long Beach Jordan (Moore) 7-2; San Clemente (South Coast) 7-2; Crespi (Serra) 6-3
Read carfully
I like Tustin vs. La Habra...that'd be a good game
Valley... u ready to be knocked out of the 'Others' section on the polls? LOL
ou812...I don't see any Foothill people talking smack at all and as was said, overlooking Foothill wouldn't be smart. If La Habra gets their ground game stopped, then what, they pass? Hahaha, ridiculous... And Foothill has plenty of experience stopping a running game with Tustin being their rival and all. Aside from that I believe that La Habra will play either Foothill or Tustin in the finals... or I guess it could just be Foothill vs Tustin if Tustin is in La Habra's side of the bracket...
Here is how the actually rankings should be:
1. La Habra - Quality team that has two legit play makers on offense. Biggest problem, annoying fans/supporters. Strength of scheduled is admired and deserves to put into the equation. If LH had played SC at home, the score might not have been close.
2. Foothill - Solid defense and offense is finally gelling together. QB Zach Griffith has gotten better each week. Biggest problem, lack of discipline, missing a key player on defense and a weak league schedule. Was very impressed with the win over Santa Margarita, but I don't think they beat Tustin is Anthony Wilkerson was healthy. Key question is can the Knights get passed their second round jinx?
3. Fullerton - Their record put them in this position. They have one quality running back, but a good defense can take away the running game in the playoffs. Biggest problem, lack of a second option on offense will hurt their playoff run. Ex: losses to Canyon 42-21 and LH 24-7. Quality wins include: El Dorado, 20-16, and Western, 21-13.
4. Tustin - Record is deceiving. Loss to Kennedy was a fluke, Wilkerson did not play in the second half (Tustin was winning 28-14 before he got hurt), and he didn't play against Foothill. Came back to play against OLU, but was still hurt. The offense is now running on all cylinders since recovering from his kneed injury. Also helps to have three defensive lineman weighing in over 265 lbs. This will be the sleeper to team to watch in this division. Only team that can stop them will be LH because they can mix up their offense enough to put some points on the board, everyone is too one dimensional.
5. Western - This team will go a far as Ruben Ortega takes them. Has to be one of the best two-way players in the county. Biggest problem is disciplinary issues with him and eligibility. Not to mention a lingering knee injury. This team has lost some close games to quality opponents, which means they will be a better team for it when the playoffs roll around. Still, don't expect a much more than a second round or quarter finals appearance.
6. Cypress - The biggest two faced team in the county. One second they look like a lock down unit the will grind out a victory and the next they look like a sloppy team that has a difficult time putting points on the scoreboard. Biggest question will be: which team will show up when the playoffs roll around? One thing is for certain, it will be a low scoring game.
7. Valencia - I have to admit this is one team I don't know that much about. Based on the numbers online the Tigers can really put up some big offensive number, they were only held to single digit points once (Western, 21-7). Biggest problem, might be their defense which also seems to give up quite a few points. Who ever they play expect a shoot out because that is the only way they will win a playoff game.
8. Canyon - The Comaches run a complicated offense, but it gets everyone involved and keeps the defense on their toes. Problem is getting that offense in a rhythm. They scored at will against Fullerton, 42-21, and got man handled against Tustin, 42-13. They have a quality win over El Dorado, 37-27. They also have a quality loss to Foothill, 21-14, and Wester, 29-22. This is another team the will have to win via the shootout in order to advance because the defense is non-existent.
9. Pacifica - Their losses have all come against quality teams: Fountain Valley, Cal, JSerra and Valencia. Biggest problem is they can't seem to beat any of those quality teams. Their biggest win thus far has been over Kennedy, 40-13. It will be interesting to see how they do against Cypress this week. But I expect a second round exit from this team in the playoffs.
10. El Dorado - Don't ever underestimate the heart of a champion. In order to be the best you have to beat the best and ElDo is a reigning two-time CIF champion. Now with that being said the Hawks have already been beaten four times this year, including a loss to Canyon in the Century League. ElDo desperately needs a win against Tustin this week to salvage its season, but I don't see that happening. They will be awarded an at-large bid, but don't expect them to get any further than the second round in CIF.
PREDICTION: Depending on where the teams are placed on the bracket... I would like to see La Habra clash with Tustin in the title game and I see the home team winning this game, but a neutral site would make this game an instant classic.
Other teams I hope playe each other include: Foothill vs. Western, Tustin vs. Fullerton, Foothill vs. LH, Fullerton vs. Western, Valencia vs. Canyon, El Dorado vs. Cypress, Pacifica vs. El Dorado and Tustin vs. Foothill.
Southwest guru - Excellent post, especially regarding the LH faithful. Their bloggers seem to be a bunch of kids who probably have never seen a football field from the field...rather they post from the complete safety of their keyboards then go to games and eat funnel cakes from the stands. I don't choose to engage them. That said, the LH secondary is their weakest link, corners that is, BY FAR, on that team. The safety's bring it...they hit. The SC kid with the long Italian last name shredded them apart. LH has some good athletes on the offensive side of the ball, and they run different looks. Last week, we were beat by a great running back in Quezada, but the Indian faithful would love another shot at LH...
when anyone plays at la habra its like a jungle the fans are the loudest in high school anywhere so buckle your seatbelts your headed for cif playoffs and your in the jungle baby your goin die ps welcome to LA HABRA CHAMPIONSHIP FOOTBALL
La Habras secondary isn't weak, it just doesn't stand out as much as the line backers or the lineman, and yeah most of the La Habra faithful on here probably never played, but I did and I know first hand that it is one of the hardest working programs around. The coaching is top notch, they are always coming up with creative new plays and pushing the players o the limit, and the kids are great. Fullerton lost, it wasn't a complete blowout, but I didn't think that Fullerton was impressive, at all. Allain is really good, but I think what he did wasn't amazing, he had what 110 yards on 22 carries? That's an average of 5 yards a carry. La Habra had complete control throughout the game. I can't wait for playoffs, but the trash talking on La Habra will continue, like it always does.
Also if you want to talk about weak links how about Fullerton's quarterback? Talk about weak, doesn't even look like he could put up 185, weak throws as well. There secondary wasn't that great either seeing they couldn't even catch up to Ronnie or Josh.
Go La Habra!! Can't wait to see you in the playoffs!!
To WOW: If you're going to run your mouth about spelling and education, you should probably check your own first. Why don't you look in a dictionary for the word "defence".
Didnt fullerton and tustin beat western????
western has no right to be up there.
Is it reffering to the 7-2 (those 2 coming from the two teams they stand in front of). not fair. not sure how foothill can be no. 1 either.
Why isnt Buena Park ranked number 1###!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LOOK MY PREDICTION FOR THE CIF FINALS LA HABRA VS FOOTHIILL
ay man i is fellin the love frm southwest football guru man. dont trip one love thizz or die
Hey Injun Joe, Was that Allain flat on his back on the sidelines after getting beat down for four quarters? Was that the fullerton faithfull crowd leaving the stadium with 6 minutes remaining in the game? Maybe next year it will be different, Keep reaching for the stars.
even though cypress beat valencia i believe that valencia is a better team, and pacifica should be much higher than 10
LHHS87 The game was in La Habra, the armpit of Orange County where the shooting starts after dark...the fans were being smart just getting out of there.
Nobody on here says anything bad about La Habra football. Because I point out a weakness doesn't mean I think they are a bad team or they weren't a better team than Fullerton last week. I know Fullerton is one dimensional, but NO ONE has stopped Michael Allain all year. You guys did for the most part, well sort of, he did get 120+ yards. Obviously, we are going to have to do something different to get our offense going to have a chance to beat La Habra. But this "oh everybody hates us wah wah" attitude that 90% of the LH bloggers have on here is BS. Taking a shot at our QB is BS as well, the kid has a cannon for an arm and is a baseball (a D1 prospect switch hitting shortstop) player playing football. He does what is asked of him in the parameters of the offense. Let's turn the page and hope we see each other again in CIF. It's up to us to make the changes.
Go Tribe!
indainchief you guys got spanked so talk more about it i hope we see each other in cif so we can return the favor
IndianChief , let's see, you must have been the star running back, or um wait a minute, the handsome 6'4" quarterback with a canon for an arm, but my guess is the kid on the sideline who never got to play. Awww! Us LH Faithful did exactly what we meant to do in this blog, upset you and your sad Fullerton football team...
IndianChief, You claim to be a knowledgable football fan, and yet, your posts confuse me. You say that Fullerton's defense did a good job against La Habra. And yet, you gave up 356 rushing yards? You claim to be not impressed with Hillman saying that he is a "non-factor" because he only gained 105 yards on 13 carries. So does this mean that Allain is a non-factor with his 115 yards on 28 carries? Footb all fans who truly understand the game know that Hillman's value is the fact that when he steps on the football field every defense must account for him which opens up the field for his teammates. In other words, he is a factor even when he is not touching the football. Wouldn't you agree? It is admirable that you try to salvage something from your defeat. You say that our secondary is our weakest link. So why didn't your offense exploit this "weak link"? Either you didn't have the tools to do it or you didn't have th knowledge to do it. Which one was it? As far as wanting to meet us again in the playoffs, I find it hard to believe that you would want to meet a team that you haven't beat - in how long? What I really believe is that you hope that you DON'T have to meet LH in the playoffs!!!
hwat up standy only you could be so gentle to the injun chef er chief
Foothill has been a great team to watch this year. Not only have they improved, so has their Varsity Cheerleaders. The fans in the stand are enjoying the OLD TIMER Cheers! Ungh Ungawa! Go Knights!
That made me laugh about la habra high school fans blogging from the safety of the keyboard and eating funnel cakes in the stand. I dare you to go to the la habra side during a game and shout for your team. Before you do that, you might want to bring a friend...or thirty. The fans are the best in La Habra, all the other teams don't have fans like we do because they don't want to support their team like we do.
It is still the same old story with fullerton...we keep giving you chances to beat us, and you never do. It is sort of like a kid playing against his dad in basketball, the kid thinks he can win but in reality their isn't a chance. Don't get too stressed though fullerton...as you might..just might get a win on the 187th try. Actually maybe not...but you guys can dream if you want.
I was wondering if anybody knows if Fullerton Running Back Michael Allain has gotten any offers from any colleges? He still hasnt committed and yet he is 15th in the state in rushing.anybody know?
I love all of this talk, it is very entertaining. I think everyone at Foothill knows how very fortunate they were to pull out a win against THHS. But hey its all good. We, like El Dorado enjoy flying under the radar.
Oops! El Dorado beat Tustin!!! What a shock!! Not!! Sorry SW Guru guy. Meanwhile a now healthy THHS team is still in stealth mode hiding in plain sight.
Have you been to a game? You just read the scores. Heh, the offense has turned the ball over so many times on their side of the 50 it's ridiculous. There are at least two or three scores that happened when the defense wasn't on the field. They just held VP to 33 yards rushing. All the points Brea scored came on the scout team. All the points ElMo scored came on offensive turnovers, one in the endzone. LH played against scout Linebackers. Remove your head from your rectum, real football doesn't happen there.
Fullertonstudent, REPORT CARD!!!!!
I'm just glad we don't have to freeze to death and get thumped by Tesoro any more! Who did Foothill lose to? I can't believe they were any higher ranked than La Habra's two losses. La Habra has only allowed 4 touchdowns to Division opponents and those were all allowed by the second string. Too bad Flores broke his arm though. That hurt the D.
Go Highlanders!!
Fullerton , stop crying its annoying. Up your pre season schedule and give credit to your opponents where credit is do. When La Habra lost to Los Al and SC we tipped our hats to them. There are bigger fish to fry in this division than you! For the past few years the playoffs have come down to La Habra and someone else and thats just fine with La Habra Fans.
i did l lil bit of research..... and this are the pairings that i came up with for the first round..... what do u guys think????
1.Foothill vs Anaheim or Loara
2.La Habra vs Santa Valley
3.Western vs Huntington Beach
4.Fullerton vs Canyon
5.Cypress vs Sunny Hills
6.El Dorado vs Pacifica
7.Tustin vs Trabuco Hills
8. Valencia vs Magnolia
What do u guys, think??????
im a lh fan i was at the la habra fullerton game #50 was the one who hit allain i believe his name is erik padilla
western is takin cif
We'll know by noon on Sunday, but here are my pairings, assuming LH is 1st seed????
Upper bracket:
La Habra vs. Anaheim
Trabuco Hills vs Magnolia
Tustin vs. Valencia
Western vs. Sunny Hills
Lower bracket:
Foothill vs. Pacifica
Cypress vs. Canyon
Fullerton vs. Huntington Beach
El Dorado vs. Santa Ana Valley
Now, if Foothill is seeded 1st, then things get moved around a bit.....
Valley vs anyone except Anaheim (which is an impossible 1st round) means a Valley 1st round KO! Valley, 1 and done!
