    westminster above grove ok?

  • sickmofo says:

WESTMINSTER OVER GROVE HUMMM YEAH I CAN SEE THAT ALSO WOW OCV GREAT CALL

  • Just so everyone is clear on this:

The CIF rankings are voted on by the division coaches and selected media memebers.

The only rankings that are voted on solely by the Register and OCV reporters are the O.C. football rankings.

So if the CIF rankings look screwy to you, well, it’s not entirely our fault, More coaches vote in these polls than reporters.

  • lil bill says:

what i dont understand, is how is garden grove and santiago ranked ahead of los amigos. the lobos are undefeated in league and are on a 4 game win streak when it matter while both the argos and cavs both have 1 loss in league. both argos and cavs will be hoping that santiago can beat los so there could be a 3 way tie. i guess frank fryer will have to give los some respect if they beat the cavs this friday night.

  • Pappy says:

GG was Westminster’s first game of the season. While the Lions have been getting better, the Argos have slipped a bit since the beginning of the season. Plus the Lions’ big gun, Aaron Garbutt, wasn’t inserted into the running back position until the middle of the season and thats made all the difference in the world. Or did GG really have a cream puff preseason schedule?

  • thevine says:

So then are these the top four seed for the playoffs?
    1. Laguna Hills #1 PCL
    2.CdM #2 PCL
    3.Mayfair #1 Suburban
    4.Westminister #1 GWL

or will this change with this weeks games?

  • thevine says:

CdM has Beckman this week and there is playoff implication with that but I think they will finish in the #2 spot

  • RAY says:

wow still no respect for the saints hope fullly we mee ton of these gg league team in cif and then will see how good they really are

  • proud lancer says:

Didn’t Norwalk beat Los Amigos 58-14? Yep they sure did! Wow, I would hate to meet that team in the first round…………

  • Legit40 says:

The Saints beating the Jags. was all luck!!!!

  • CKings says:

Hmm weird no one is saying anything about cdm now

  • yeah right says:

I like Norwalk’s chances against any team except Westminster because they know how to stop the double wing.

I hope Orange beats Santa Ana and then Segerstrom loses the coin flip…..that would be funny stuff

I think it will look like this

    #1 Laguna Hills v. GWL #3
    Suburban #2 v. OCL #2

    GGL #1 v. Suburban #3
    #4 Westminster v. OCL #3

    #3 Mayfair v. GGL #3
    OCL #1 v. PCL #3

    GWL #2 v. GGL #2
    #2 Corona Del Mar v. Suburban #4

  • IwasTHere says:

I was at the Grove game, don’t know anyone on either team (just out scouting). Grove took the game from Westminster in the second half. There is no giving away in football. Turnovers happen, but that why there is a defense - but when your defense can’t stop an ‘up the middle’ rushing attack… Sorry Lions, no excuses here, Grove beat you. Garbutt was moved around in different formations (dropped a few passes). I wass there, no BS from refs, cr-appy calls both ways.

  • yeah right says:

The Lions had alot going on that week off the field and for the first four weeks. Things have somewhat stabilized now. Though they stil aren’t as good as they should be defensively, I like their chances.

It wasn’t an up the middle rushing attack, the were running power off tackle, something that nobody has been able to do on them the last 5 years till this year. The off the field problems were the biggest reason that happened.

  • Iwasthere says:

What is this the NFL? Lions like the Cowboys? Bengals? Blaming off the field problems. Get real and lose the excuses. Your a better team, I agree, but just accept the loss as a loss. Good luck against LH.

  • saints27 says:

OK IM ALL TIRED OF HEARING GARDEN GROVE AND Westminster.. LOOK WHAT ABOUT SANTA ANA AND SANTIAGO.HUH. THESE TWO SKOOLS ARE THE BEST.. I WANT TO SEE SANTIAGO AND SANTA ANA FACE EACH OTHER. SCREW THE OTHER HIGH SCHOOLS I KNOW LAGUNA HILLS IS GONA TAKE IT.. BUT LOOK WHO CARES ABOUT THE RANKINGS. WHEN YOUR SKOOLS WIN CIF THATS WHEN YOU GUYS SHOULD TALK BUT FOR NOW BE QUIET AND WE WILL SEE ON CIF.. GO SAINTS.. GO RED

  • Ray says:

NO SAINT 2 ITS GO BIG RED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • miles says:

how is grove ahead of Los???? after Los beats santiago this friday and wins league undefeated, they should finally get the respect they deserve.

how about Agnew for coach of the year.

  • Legit40 says:

    Saints suk!!!!!!!

  • yeah right says:

Iwasthere - you have no idea

  • yeah right says:

woops, hit the button too early

anyways, the program took a huge hit that week.

  • PMaK says:

There is no way los amigos should be top ten..and if anyone deserves respect its NORWALK..they lost to artesia in overtime without their star runningback and held Mayfair to 21 real points now that’s a team that deserves real respect oh wait they also beat los amigos 58-14 without starters in the fourth quarter..now Santa ana??are you serious?? They better hope to get a OCL team cuz if the GGL gave their fourth seed (la quinta) Santa ana would still lose..

C.I.F. Will expose these supposedly good teams

  • the guy says:

Agnew is a good coach but coach of the year?? Maybe coach of the second half of the year

  • yeah right says:

    Hey Pmak,

what are “real points”? Either way, Norwalk will be a tough draw for any team but Westminster because they know that double wing offense front and back. Is the star running back back?

  • C.o.B. says:

PMak get over yourself you have been talking alot about other league’s and teams….why dont you shut up already cause all that trash talking is coming back to bite you in the ass…

  • sickmofo says:

STAR RUNNING BACK WESTMINSTER HAS 2 LOUIE VILLA AND AARON GARBUTT STOP ONE AND YOU HAVE TO DEAL WITH THE OTHER PLUS MICHAEL LUU ……THE YOU HAVE M.V.P JULIO DOMINGUEZ PLAYING BOTH SIDES OF THE BALL

  • Not an ignorant statement says:

Sick mofo is clearly mistaken, Julio Dominguez is only their kicker and has struggled.

The only chance this Westminster team has winning it all is if their defense steps it up.
Against real competition (non league), the Westminster defense has been horrid.

This team won’t have any problem putting up points with their Thunder and Lightning, Louie Villa and Aaron Garbutt, but if a team in this division runs some kind of spread offense, this defense could be in trouble.
This team struggles putting up any kind of pass rush and their defensive backs are under sized with Garbutt now playing linebacker.

  • PMaK says:

Quick question what kind of offense does westminister run?? And yeah he is back he’ll play this week against bellflower..

  • CKings says:

I hate to be pcl bias but i think irvine deserves to be above santiago and westminister and garden grove.

  • yeah right says:

    PmaK,

Westminster runs the get the ball to Aaron Garbutt offense and it works. Kid is the best player in the division, bar none.

Not an ignorant statement is correct. Westminster’s defense hasn’t been great which goes back to the hit the program took in week 1. However, if they play a team that runs a double wing or similar, that will make it easy for them. A good spread team might give them fits, but will still have to score more points than #21. That kid is good enough to take the whole tournament over by himself.

  • Legit40 says:

Don’t get your hopes up Santiago………
Los Amigos is going 2 take that League Title!!!!!!!!!!

  • Pappy says:

Lions’ Louie Villa is a nice player, but he wasn’t getting it done. That’s why McMillan had to put Garbutt back there. Micheal Luu goes missing sometimes, very inconsistent. Still if they get a good draw, Westminster should make some noise.

  • vaq 4 life says:

im sick of people complaing about where they are ranked its the last week of the reg. season next weeks playoffs starts and then a team that should be rank and not rank can prove what they are about like cypress did last year……its win or ur done starting next week rankings wont matter

  • blah! says:

wow what a game between santiago and los amigos 2 over times and yes the better team did come on top yayy!!! go CAVS
o and it was kinda funny seeing grove cheer for santiago now thats a kodak moment haha

  • Just a Guess says:

Here’s How I think the playoff matchups will look: (keep in mind the League champs are seeded 1st despite ranking, ranking just gets you an easier opponent 1st round)

#1 PCL (Laguna Hills) - #4 Sub L (La Mirada)
    #1 Sub L (Mayfair) - #3 OCL (Calvary Chapel)
    #1 GWL (Westy) - #3 GGL (Santiago)
    #1 GGL (Los) - #3 Sub L (Norwalk)
#1 OCL (Costa Mesa) - #3 PCL (Irvine)
    #2 PCL (Cd M) - # 3 GWL (Segerstrom)
    #2 Sub L (Artesia) - #2 OCL (Laguna Beach)
    #2 GWL (Saints) - #2 GGL (Grove)

I kept in mind the ’strength of league’ as well.

    Anyone else think different?

  • PMaK says:

Oh just thought I’d tell you Norwalk is the number two seed out of the suburban league with there 63-13 win last night..

  • thevine says:

I like your scenerio better than ‘gamefilmguy’s’ he has Irvine vs Mayfair first round yikes.Last year we got Estancia #1 out of OCL. I am curious to know just how good the GWL and GGL representatives are. Also I think Costa Mesa and Calvary Chapel could surprise someone.

    What if….

    Irvine vs Westminister ? GWL#1
Irvine vs Los Amigos ? GGL#1
    or…..
    Irvine vs Artesia? SL#2
    Irvine vs Santa Ana? GWL#2
    Irvine vs GG ? GG#2

    but Mayfair? Ugh!!!
I guess they are just as big and physical as Laguna Hills
grrreeeaaat!! should be good though no matter who.

  • thevine says:

Ya I mean Norwalk SL#2 Thanks PMaK

  • ENCORE says:

Way to GO Santiago! Make Pat Compton Proud !

  • PMaK says:

I think you guys will get either Mayfair or costa mesa or los amigos I doubt you’ll get a 2nd place team most likely a number 1 and he’ll yeah Mayfair was big and physical..

  • 123654 says:

just a guess you should switch calvary chapel and la mirada

  • SANTiAGO CAVALiER says:

LEGiT40 WUT HAPPEN iTHOUGHT YOU SAiD LOS WUZ GONNA TAKE iT?THATZ RiGHT KEEP UR MOUTH SHUT! 24-30 WUZ THE SCOREE! AND SANTiAGO WON!

  • yeah right says:

    Just a guess -

    you said
“ranking just gets you an easier opponent 1st round”

That isn’t at all true, they are just placed where they fit and how do you guys know what place the suburban teams finished? Where did you see the coin flip results?

  • yeah right says:

Also just a guess, your scenario wouldn’t work because a suburban team would have to be in each half brackett and it doesn’t fit that way. I’m pretty sure Irvine gets Mayfair.

  • Keith Grubert says:

Costa Mesa is strictly the team to beat!!! Go Mustangs!!!

  • PMaK says:

I know the coin flip results cuZ my coach told me last night..

  • PMaK says:

    Who is costa mesa??

  • yeah right says:

Costa mesa likely gets blown out in round 1

PMak, what are the coin flip results?

  • PMaK says:

Norwalk won the toss so they’re second then I believe artesia then la mirada four..

  • thevine says:

Costa Mesa played us good though the score didnt show it
they are on an up swing for sure. They are similar to Segerstrom a few years ago, maybe not as gritty but on a up swing.Calvary Chapel too for that matter.Scores dont always show the way the game was played! Congrats to them an good luck.
Also #1 seed gets first bracket
#3 or #4 gets 2nd and third (depending on seeds)
    #2 gets 4th bracket
then they fill the brackets so top seeds dont meet in the semi’s I think

  • thevine says:

I mean top seeds ‘in the same league’ dont meet in the semis
    (Laguna Hills and CdM)

  • yeah right says:

    the vine?

Segerstrom is on an upswing? They barely made the playoffs with a team full of seniors…that coach sucks. Have you seen Mesa play? I have, they are terrible. No coaching, they lack basic fundemental skills, though the same can be said of most of the teams in this divisions.

    The bracketts go as follows

    Upper
    1 seed half brackett
    4 seed half brackett

    Lower Brackets
    2 seed half brackett
    4 seed half brackett

    2 v 2s
    1 v 3s
    special circumstances
    CDM v 3 or 4…probably suburban 4
1s and 2s from each league ant be on the same side of the brackett, fit ‘em in

  • yeah right says:

lower brackett gets the 3 seed sorry

  • Just A Guess says:

I was unsure of how the Suburban League finished. Sorry about that. I believe the #1 seed (LH) will get #4 from Suburban L (even if the #4 is better than any other #3) . Hopefully this is a more competitive year in the Southern Division. Good luck to all!

  • thevine says:

‘Yeah Right” I have seen Mesa play-we(Irvine-”thevine”) played them in preseason this year and last year , also played Segerstrom last year (you can look up the scores) and both these programs have shown alot of improvement. The score dosnt show how hard these kids play. This is the JAGS first time to the playoffs thats why I say they are on an up swing.Im not supporter or fan of theres just mutual respect.Congrats to them.Just giving props.Honestly we are all undersized in this Division,in amount of players and actual size of players.Seriously we would all get blown up by better, bigger, leagues. I know that.Still it dosn’t take away anything from our kids or our program and how hard they worked.Thats why to me its not the point.Just give us our fair shot and let the players play! Lets see what Sunday brings!-TTYL
    TTYL

  • PMaK says:

I think your wrong about being undersized maybe on the defensive side but offensively the teams are huge..

  • Legit40 says:

I give Santiago 1st round and out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Chata says:

Haha - Legit ur still talking smack! LOL - Santiago has Costa Mesa, a team they can play with- Valley has Fullerton! Looks like Valley is taking a 1st round exit! LOL

  • 1cavalwaysacav says:
