BREA — It happened on Orange Lutheran’s first play of the game, the run that let Santa Margarita know its defense was going to have a lot of work to do Thursday night at Brea Olinda High.
Kyle Dravis sprinted down the middle of the field for a 68-yard touchdown.
Just like that, the No. 7 Lancers had the lead, and after that there was no slowing them as they cruised to a 49-24 Trinity League victory. (Full game stats.)
The Lancers scored on three of their first four possessions. Garrett Gilliland ran for two touchdowns during that span, one from 28 yards and the other from 6.
For the Lancers (7-2, 3-1), Dravis and Damani Wilson rushed for more than 100 yards each.
The Lancers, though, almost gave this one away, turning the ball over twice at the beginning of the second half. The Eagles (2-7, 0-4) turned that into 10 points, courtesy of a 28-yard Robert Maniaci field goal, and a 1-yard TD run by Spencer Tyson.
Ryan World and Greg Beaudoin led the Eagles offense. World finished with 215 yards passing and Beaudoin had 123 yards receiving on five catches, including a 51-yard touchdown.
