Here's a team-by-team look at the South Coast League:

(Click on a team name to see season totals.)

Tesoro (10-0, 5-0): The Titans clinched the league title outright with a victory over Dana Hills on Friday.

Mission Viejo (9-1, 4-1): The Diablos take second place.

San Clemente (8-2, 3-2): The Tritons are in the playoff with a third-place finish.

Dana Hills (5-5, 2-3): The Dolphins are eligible to petition for an at-large berth, but it would be a long shot in the Pac-5 with a .500 record.

Capistrano Valley (3-7, 1-4): The Cougars were eliminated from playoff contention last week.

Aliso Niguel (0-10, 0-5): The Wolverines had no shot at the playoffs.

Note: There is one at-large berth in the Pac-5, but it's like to go to the Serra, Sunset or Trinity League.

  • Deefend says:

    Steve,
Can you explain in detail why they give it to another league other than the South Coast?? Don't you think the C.I.F should work on a rotation yearly for the at large Berth?? Instead of always giving it to a Trinity League?? Like they did last year, Santa Margrita got the at Large Berth?? expalin???

  • CARLOS ARIAS says:

Deefend: I would guess the Serra League gets the at-large berth this year. It's a four-team league, which only gets two guaranteed spots, and it's one of the most competitive in CIF-SS this year.

    1. Notre Dame/SO (8-0, 1-0) - W Servite, 31-24; W Alemany, 44-17; and W Crespi, 37-17

    2. Loyola (5-3, 1-0) - W Mira Costa, 23-7; L De La Salle, 21-27; L St. John Bosco, 28-44; W Hart, 52-14; L Alemany, 16-21; W Bishop Amat, 17-6

    3t. Bishop Amat (6-2, 0-1) - L Los Osos, 20-24; W Orange Lutheran, 47-39; L Loyola, 6-17

    3t. Crespi (6-2, 0-1) - W Servite, 21-20; L St. Bonaventure, 14-31; W Saugus, 37-14; L Notre Dame/SO, 17-37.

Let me finish your sentence for you, "The Diablos can clinch a playoff berth with a victory over Dana Hills on Friday, but WON'T." There. That rings more true.

  • Deefend says:

    Carlos,

So... do you mean three teams are in?? not two??

  • CARLOS ARIAS says:

Deefend: Serra League has two guaranteed berths, but I believe the third place team from the Serra League will havae the best chance at the at-large berth in Pac-5. But you never know how the CIF-SS selection committee will go.

  • Steve, How does Tesoro share the title? Even with at loss to Dana, they still own all the tie breakers. They clinched the league title against Aliso last Friday.

  • justaguyinoc says:

dovecanyon, Tesoro owns the tie breaker for the playoff seeding, but when two teams both finish 4-1, they share the league title.

  • danafan says:

Dana Hills most probably will not get an at large bid but they deserve it. Their 5 loses were to Tesoro #1, Edison high top ten, Mission Viejo high top ten, San Clemente 8th, and Newport harbor by 1 who was 10th two weeks ago and just beat Los Alamitos. They led but lost to both Mission and San Clemente by 14 and 10 respectfully. They had to missed field goals in a row to lose to Newport by 1 on the last play of the game. They would be top 2 in many other leagues. The South Coast league is just loaded this year. Too bad because they have played quality football this year.
