ANAHEIM — A second-half comeback was not enough for Savanna as it fell to Santa Ana Valley, 35-28, Thursday night at Glover Stadium. (Full game stats.)
The Falcons (5-4, 3-1) entered the second half against the Rebels (2-7, 0-4) ahead, 21-0.
The Rebels mounted a comeback scoring 28 points in the second half on the strengths of quarterback Vito Zaccaria and running back DaShawn Miller. They combined for all four Rebels touchdowns.
However, their efforts fell short in the fourth quarter as they were unable to stop the run allowing the Falcons to hold on.
Leading the Falcons to victory was running back Darius Narcoste, who rushed for 226 yards on 35 carries.
Narcoste rushed for three touchdowns and had one receiving touchdown. Narcoste added 85 yards on four receptions.
“Our game plan all week was to run right at them, we are bigger than they are,” Falcons coach Larry Mohr said.
Valley dominated the Rebels in the first half but, according to Mohr, the Falcons “came out a little flat in the second half.”
