GARDEN GROVE -- Well, Los Amigos did its part. Now it’s up to Santiago to make next week’s game a winner-take-all battle for the Garden Grove League title.
Los Amigos remained undefeated in league with a 40-14 victory over Bolsa Grande on Thursday at Garden Grove High. (Full game stats.)
The Lobos (5-4, 4-0) can win the title outright with a victory next week against Santiago (7-1, 3-0), which visits Garden Grove (7-1, 2-1) on Friday.
Los Amigos, which led 40-0, made short work of Bolsa Grande (4-5, 1-3) scoring 17 in the first quarter and 30 by halftime.
No one had a better night than Ricky Vu, who finished with 14 carries for 208 yards and touchdown runs of 55, 37 and 20 yards.
“We always knew he had it in him and were waiting for him to do it,” said Lobos coach Carl Agnew, who didn’t see any letdown in focus like he had feared against an overmatched opponent. “We couldn’t have chosen for it to go any better.”
Remarkably, Los Amigos ran only 11 plays in the first half to Bolsa’s 34.
Los Amigos scored 17 points after Bolsa turnovers, including a 67-yard interception return by Jose Perez in the first quarter.
