Here’s a team-by-team look at the Empire League:

(Click on a team name to see season totals.)
Cypress (7-3, 5-0): The Centurions clinched the league title outright with a vicctory over Pacifica on Friday. It’s their third league title in school history and first since 1998.

Valencia (8-2, 4-1): The Tigers clinched second place with a victory over Loara on Friday.

Pacifica (5-5, 3-2): The Mariners will be the league’s third-place representative.

Loara (5-5, 1-4): The Saxons are eligible to petition for an at-large berth, but they would be a long shot.

Kennedy (4-6, 2-3): The Fighting Irish have been eliminated from playoff contention.

Katella (1-9, 0-5): The Knights weren’t in the playoff hunt.

Note: The lone at-large berth in the Southwest Division could go to the fourth-place team in the Empire League.

  • Champions Train says:

Cypress and Valencia, are the Two best teams in this league.

    Fenton CIF CHAMPION
    M. Murijo Valencia 4x CIF CHAMPION

    GARDNER PATHITICA ZERO :0(

  • overlookphs says:

    keep talking……

  • STICKEM says:

True…but neither team has played much of a schedule this year. Don’t be surprised if they both get bounced early.

  • CARLOS ARIAS says:

I believe La Habra and Fullerton have the edge in the Southwest Division this year.

  • Champions Train says:

Guy Gardner’s Team are not very physical and discipline.

  • matt says:

Division wise, Carlos you are probably correct. Toughness and talent wise La Habra should be a clear cut choice because of the schedule they have played. Fullerton could totally derail that tomorrow night, but the playoffs in this divisioin could be a close second to the pac5 in terms of anyone going out and winning it all.
Cypress and Fullerton have played each other twice the past two seasons. Cypress winning the first meeting in a wild come from behind victory and Fullerton did the same last year (almost exactly the same way). It has been amazing to watch these to programs really come into their own. I hope both the best and maybe just maybe they both could meet in the final.

    Do not overlook Foothill

  • ENCORE says:

Look’s like another Leauge Title for The PaCIFica Mariner’s! They will have to build another wall in the gym to hold up another Banner, because they are full! That’s what happen’s when your team’s are Disciplined and have Physical Athelete’s! PaCIFica’s only been to the CIF playoff’s 30 time’s since Nixon was President! Kennedy’s gone, Katella’s gone, and so is Loara! That leaves a Cypress/ PaCIFica showdown next week for a 3 team tie for the Empire Leauge Crown! Great job Coach Guy Gardner and the Whole Mariner Team for not giving up this year after 3 tough losses. Josh you can carry this team all the way! And bring home one more banner to the gym wall. The CIF Champion Banner! See you next week I’ll be at the game!!! ENCORE-OUT

  • Empire fan says:

Kennedy is 3-6 not 4-5 so even after they beat Katella next week they will only have 4 wins, so how does the wildcard process work if all the 4th place teams finish below 5-5 which is very likely? Loara will be 5-5 but will be a 5th place team not a 4th place team, will they jump over 4-6 4th place teams or will they be out being that they’re a 5th place team? Not that it matters much the wild card is going to get whacked in the 1st round by a much better team but i’m curious.

  • Empire fan says:

Upon further review it doesn’t matter as the Orange league and possibly the Freeway league will have a 4th place team with a 5-5 or better record so Kennedy your season is over and Loara still has a very slim chance at the wildcard

  • Bick says:

I think the at-large team in the SW division will be the loser of tonight’s Eldo-Villa Park game.

  • ks75 says:

    champions train…classless.

  • cypress says:

  • CARLOS ARIAS says:

cypress sucks: I believe that is the first “Peter Pacifica is God!” reference of the year. Nicely played my friend.

  • CARLOS ARIAS says:

Empire fan: Thanks for the heads up on Kennedy’s record. We had the score against Vista Murrietta wrong. I made the correction and Kennedy is no longer going to be eligible to petition for an at-large berth even if it beats Katella.

  • DUECES says:

  • loarapops says:

Read again Loara is 6_4 will be 7-4 with a victory this friday overall which makes them the the forurth place team since kennedy has already been eliminated.

  • loarapops says:

my bad loara will be 6-4 overall with a win against valencia which will give them a sure atberth.

  • CYPfan says:

ENCORE: pacifica league champs 08? Im pretty sure they havent won it yet….

  • ENCORE says:

CYPfan we will by 9:30pm friday night!

  • CYPfan says:

lol alright encore we will see…reminds me of some saying i heard about hatching chickens…oh well im sure ill remember what it was sometime this week…

  • Empire fan says:

I don’t think loara is eligible to petition for the at large spot because they finished 5th not 4th in the league so that should negate there 5-5 record

  • CYPfan says:

Encore I finally remembered what that quote was. “Don’t count your chickens before they hatch” I’m pretty sure it was. Tell me how does crow taste???

CYPRESS FOOTBALL 2008 EMPIRE LEAGUE CHAMPIONS.

    all by their lonesome…

  • seadog says:

    ENCORE I don’t see you talking smack. Cypress 49 – Pacifica 21 (F)
    Nice job Cents.

  • Empire fan says:

Congrats to Cypress and good luck in the playoffs, you will be the only strong representitive from this league in the playoffs so go far and represent the Empire league well , great job coach Fenton and company

  • ENCORE says:

My prayer’s are with Max Reza, his Family, and his Teammate’s. And I did count my chicken’s CYPfan! Congradulation’s to the Defending CIF champion’s, and 2008 Empire League Champion’s, Cypress Centurion’s! 90630 is very proud of your accomplishment’s the past few year’s! California CIF Coach of the Year Ray Fenton your doing a Great Job with your Team keep it up! I just had to see for myself, I did and Cypress is a Great Team! PaCIFica Is very young and it showed Friday Night! No team can win with 2 Blocked Punt’s one for a TD, and 5 Fumble’s! You guy’s held up the ball carrier and stripped the ball out of them! Great job Cypress D! That’s how we played in 1978 for Coach Craven. We won game’s with our defensive take-away’s like 25 Intreception’s & 25 Forced Fumble’s. We only allowed 28 Point’s and had 7 shut-out’s! Thank’s for the Great Game Friday & I hope PaCIFica and Cypress meet again this Year in the SouthWest CIF Section Play-off’s! And I’ll be there! Mariner’s don’t hang your head’s, your in the play-off’s again! Learn from your mistake’s like stopping that fake punt in the 4th Qtr, I new that was comming and had you stopped it, the Mariner’s had a shot at changing momentum in the game when it counted! Mariner’s make your contian’s on the Sweep’s, force fumble’s just like Cypress’s D did!!! And most off all have fun out there, cause you will remember these game’s the rest of your life! I wanted to go out on that field last Night so bad, so leave it on that Field. Play your Hardest Everyplay of Every Game!!! #5 nice to see you back, Lead your Team into the Play-off’s! CRUNCH BUNCH FOREVER
