Frankly Fryer: Fullerton vs. La Habra

November 5th, 2008, 5:02 pm · 25 Comments · posted by STEVE FRYER, ocvarsity.com

FULLERTON (7-1, 3-0) VS. LA HABRA (6-2, 3-0)

Site, time: La Habra High, Friday, 7 p.m.

Outlook: Clearly, these are the two best teams in the Freeway League. There are excellent football players all over the field for these two well-coached teams. Fullerton running back Michael Allain is rushing for 192 yards a game, and he runs behind, and through, an outstanding offensive line.

The Indians have that quickness on defense the best teams have, too. La Habra also is very speedy on defense, and the Highlanders have standouts on offense led by running back Josh Quezada and wingback Ronnie Hillman. The difference maker in this game, though could be La Habra quarterback Randall Nygren. He makes big plays throwing it or running with it. Nygren gives the Highlanders an advantage in what is going to be a great game played at a great place for high school football, La Habra's on-campus stadium.

Winner: La Habra

  • I'M A WESTERN FAN, BUT THIS ONE MIGHT BE AN UPSET.. FULLERTON COULD JUST PULL IT OFF... BUT WE WILL SEE... ONLY IF THEY UP FOR THE HYPE AND COME READY TO PLAY SOME FOOTBALL!!!!! GO PIOS...

  • Jerri says:

I'm a HUGE La Habra Fan but I must keep things honest. this is coming from someone has been to every La Habra game in the last 3 years. Nygren is one of those QB's that you just have to hold your breath cross your fingers and say a "Hail Mary" when the big play comes. I know he doesn't make the calls but a QB has to execute the call and unfortunately the prayer doesn't get answered. I just wonder what in the world Mazzotta is thinking on 3rd and 2 and calls the QB to throw a pass; Nygren is not that good and as a result it gets intercepted or he fumbles the ball. Yes, we kill the teams in our league but look who we're playing. Look, I really believe we could have beaten both San Clemente and Los Al... Both those teams did not come in and DOMINATE like they should have. They dind't beat us down; we beat ourselves. Remember, we lost by 7 points to both teams and their both in the TOP 10 in Orange County???? Put it together. Don't mean to offend the QB but it is what it is and if he reads this and I hope he does know that the truth will only set you straight and therefore make you work harder on the areas you are lacking so you can be ready for C.I.F.
p.s. with all that said, we'll still BEAT Fullerton!!!

  • dc says:

Jerri, Thank You!!!! Yeah he can scramble, but his arm is weak, Morales last year had a cannon, and we had speedy receivers, this year not so much, I still think La Habra has the upper hand, but he gets a lot of hype, to much of it.

  • jaadb's says:

hey, all you guys out there leave fullerton alone they have great players on the offensive and defensive side of the ball.
this week will be a great one this will determine who is the real league champs of the freeway league.
the defense of fullerton is fast and very good the defense of line is very good, they might be small but very good and the line backers are very talented also they have a great sophmore starting for them.
and there defensive backs dont get me started with them. they are all under sized but they are the best 4 some ive seen in a long time they are pretty much lock down so i dare nygren to try to pass on them . and see if he doesnt get picked atleast twice.!!

    GO TRIBE!

  • HIGHSCHOOL says:

Jaadb's, for real man... The DB's for Fullerton are probably their biggest weakness on defense. I'm not hating on Fullerton at all, and this game should be one of the best this year but to say Fullerton has lock down DB's, that's just nonsense.

  • freewayfan says:

Wow, now thats the way blogs are supposed to be. Great takes without all the harsh bullcrap. Hopefully Fullerton brings their"A" game cuz I do believe without it the game becomes very difficult for the Tribe. One thing to watch that may be a intangible for the Indians,Ficociello to Lindsey which really seems to be heating up. Fic actually out played Morales last year in head to head stats ( CIF game only ), and Lindsey was a big reason why.All that said, if they don't find a way to contain the outside speed of LH it will be a mute point.
Should be a good/great one. GO TRIBE!

  • tk says:

the hype of this game gets bigger and bigger each day. i cant wait to go out and see a slug fest. quezada and hillman might be a BIG problem for the indians. you can stop one but not both. Nygren might not be able to throw like morales but he can sure run. So there is a triple threat. have you seen la habra's defense? impresive huh :] not to forget to mention thier special teams.

  • from the cheap seats says:

Just for kicks I checked out http://calpreps.com/2008/ratings/California_all.htm today and here are some numbers to look at just for blogger fodder:

School – State Rank – Schedule Strength – Current Rating
    La Habra – 85 – 16.6 – 34.1 – #85 in the state = not too shabby!
    Fullerton – 182 – 4.6 – 24.9 – schedule strength = cupcake schedule
    Los Alomitos – 23 – 28.8 – 45.5 – *
    San Clemente – 35 – 30.8 – 41.7 – *
*Both teams had close wins over LH but have made LH much stronger and the Highlanders will dominate on the road into the playoffs.

La Habra will roll tonight on the heels of one standout effort by Ronnie Hillman.

  • yo yo says:

  • John Russel says:

La Habra is over rated, FULLERTON just has to show them whats up!!!
    GO FULLERTON!!!

  • Fullerton Fan says:

First of all I have been to every fullerton game for the past years and THIS BY FAR has to be one of the BEST TEAMS i have watched on the tribe side!!!!! LA HABRA has been blessed with excellent talent but Fullerton does not fall far behind. Lets not forget that on defense we have Randall Hicks and he can hit so hard the La Habra players will not know what hit them!!!!!! The only good thing for La Habra is Randall Hicks is the youngest of the Hicks Brothers. GO FULLERTON!!!!!! AND BEAT LA HABRA !!!!! I LOVE THE TRIBE!!!!!
