NO. 4 EDISON (6-2, 2-1) VS. NO. 8 FOUNTAIN VALLEY (6-2, 2-1)
Site, time: Orange Coast College, Friday, 7 p.m.
Outlook: This rivalry game in the Sunset League already is sold out, and probably would be even if Fountain Valley was not having a surprisingly good year. The Barons beat Los Alamitos last week and Newport Harbor the week before, so they are a hot team.
Edison comes in hobbling. Running back Preston Spence is out with a foot injury, receiver/defensive back Jeff Crissman likely won't play because of a high ankle sprain, and two-way lineman Wes Graves is out because of a knee injury.
Edison is going to pack its defense to stop Barons' outstanding running back Kyle Middlebrooks and beg Fountain Valley to pass. Fountain Valley is not a good passing team. Edison is, which enables the Chargers to play catch-up if necessary. As stated in the Los Alamitos-Esperanza analysis, the team that can throw the ball has a significant advantage at the Pac-5 level.

Mr fryer ur already making excuses for edison. The linemen is probably the only legitamatly hurt kid. Jeff and preston will be playing. it the edison game. if u havent forgoten fv has been playing without steven santana and last week beat los al without him and one of there defensive ends.

RAGS IS A GOOD QUARTERBACK AND HE HAS BEEN ANSWERING THE CALL AND STEPPING IN FOR STEVEN SANTANA, RAGLAND MAY NOT BE PASSING AS MUCH AS OTHERS DO,BUT THE TEAM IS STILL GOING STRONG AND GETTING THE W'S. GOOD LUCK BARONS, BRING HOME THE BELL, AND BEAT THOSE CHARGERS.
My thought around this game - If Fountain Valley wins, are they worthy of the No. 1 ranking in the county?
They would have beat Newport Harbor, Los Al and Edison in consecutive weeks.
theres no way you guys can stop the viles and all of his receivers. hes got at least 3 legitimate receivers NOT INCLUDING crissman and spence. with rivera, trojan, and leener. not to mention our running tandem of orphey and houston. good luck stopping that. with your only player middlebrooks
Chris... seriously? You suggest putting FV in the number 1 spot if they beat Edison? WOW! I guess that actual head to head game mean nothing to you? Tesoro beat FV this year! I guess Tesoro just got lucky right? I wouldn't even expect that question from an FV Homer!!!

It's amazing how Edison is the only team that gets a built in injury report excuse written in the paper every week. No disrepect to those Edison boys who are hurt, I'm sure they will do everything they can to play but for crying out loud. I'm sure every team in the county would like to list all the players they had to play without during the season and how that effected all of their games. It's obvious that nobody outside of the FV fan base thinks they have a chance but that was also the case the last two weeks. FV has some magic working. Let the excuses stop and the boys play and the best team win.
I also bet NH and Los Al didn't think FV was a very good passing team either. Middlebrooks still got his yards and Ragland still made plays with his arm and feet. Ragland has become one of the best duel threat QB's in the Sunset League.
When you are missing your starting tailback. your best lineman and your best receiver, that is significant, thus the injury report.

Fryer you are full of it. FV has two of their best players out due to injury. We all know of Steve Santana he has been a starter on varsity since sophmore year. IF he were to be playing he would be putting amazing passing yards up, IMO everybody got lucky becasue they dont have to face him. And Andre Mosley a starter since sophmore year had a foot injury since a passing league game. He is a shutdown DB and amazing WR.
That's my point, is Edison the only team going through that? I highly doubt it. FV has been playing without their QB which in turn made them lose their stating WR and FS (ragland) Santana was also the punter and SS. FV's best DL also missed the Los Al game. No doubt their is a trickle down effect when teams lose their best players, no arguing that. But every team goes through that in the course of a season. I'm just saying if you are going to highlight those facts for Edison maybe you should do it for all of the teams missing key players every week.
Right Wolverine! It was the Tersoro game that we lost our quarter back in the 2nd quarter to a serious shoulder injury after making a 40 yard run. Just think of how that game might have ended if he hadn't got hurt. All I can say is this game is on the line for both teams and may the best team win.

Tonight is the BIG GAME BABYYY!!! This is what FOOTBALL is all about it's comes down the players making plays, the coaches making the right calls, the students with their crazy spirit, the alumn on the sideline, the ROAR of the crowds for their team. I can smell the EXCITEMENT!!! and feel the tension it's THICK!!! REMEMBER the GAME. The deciding game....I will see everybody back here after the game.

The Bell Game will be the deciding factor on who will win the Sunset League with another big game next week Newport vs. Los AL. Los AL has to win out to stay alive and Newport has to win next week to get into the play off hunt. Newport has to win next win to get win regardless the outcome of the Bell game. Newport with the win puts Los AL back in the 4th spot and may get shunned again this year.
Barons win out, and Newport wins out

5. Esperanza (out)

Edison wins out, and Newport wins out (Barons over Marina)

You Baron Fans crack me up...you have not had a winner in years...Edison fans have a right.... they atleast make it to the playoffs and Championship games. This so called Rivalry is going on its 39th game and you have won only 14 and lost 23 ....Maybe get rid of the joke of a head coach and you might do something...as matter of fact i heard most of those kids were built up by another coach that made them winners and praise him more then they do their current Coach. The kids may be winners but does not come from their coaching..Ship always finds a way to screw up a kid...

Anyone who reads the JUNK you publish week in and week out knows you're a BIAS towards EDISON, against FV. I don't know how anyone can take what you write regarding this subject with more then a very small grain of salt. The part that compels me to BLOG this is that it’s really not fair to the good kids on the Baron squad. They beat the #2 team in the county, yet got about as much press as an underwater basket weaving competition. Quite the incentive for their parents to subscribe to your wonderful newspaper called The Orange County Register. To see their children discriminated against because a certain sports columnist bleeds GREEN and YELLOW. Ridiculous! You should really be ashamed of yourself and your so called service to the community.
Hold on a second. I'm Fryer's boss and I'm getting confused. Now he bleeds Edison green and yellow? Maybe he just cleans it off when he's washing Bruce Rollinson's car. I really need to keep track of which programs he secretly supports ... at last count, there were nearly 80 in football. Fryer is the only reason I cancelled the OCR. Fire Fryer and Ill be a buyer.
Alright, enough's enough! No one works harder to cover OC High School sports that Steve Fryer, NO ONE! And, he does it all year long, not just football. Keep up the great work Steve. I for one truly appreciate all that you do.

in 2004, fryer predicted that we would get blown out by edison at anaheim stadium. the day before the game someone put up his article up on the bulleton board. i remember reading it in the locker room. he said something along the lines of, "PEOPLE WHO SAY THAT RECORDS ARE THROWN OUT FOR RIVALRY GAMES ARE STUPID, EDISON WILL BLOW OUT FV." we won that game, but FV hasnt won the bell since then.
