No. 17 Fullerton (7-1, 3-0) vs. No. 11 La Habra (6-2, 3-0)
Friday, 7 p.m. at La Habra HS
Outlook: The game to decide the Freeway League has finally arrived.
The Indians enter the game No. 1 in the CIF Southwest Division. The Highlanders are third, but held the No. 1 spot until consecutive losses to Pac-5 contenders San Clemente and La Habra.
The Indians began the season with a loss to Canyon, but has run off seven consecutive victories.
Fullerton has allowed 15 points in its previous three games.
Michael Allain has the key. The senior has rushed for 1,539 yards and 12 touchdowns. Can he get it done against the Highlanders?
La Habra’s nonleague schedule was geared toward having them ready for games like this. Ronnie Hillman is doing what Ronnie Hillman does (743 rushing yards, 572 receiving and 15 touchdowns). The guy is fast and smooth.
Junior running back Josh Quezada has been another key reason for La Habra’s success. He has rushed for 748 yards and seven touchdowns.
Quarterback Randall Nygren has passed for 15 touchdowns and six interceptions.
La Habra has scored 148 points in three games since the start of league.
La Habra defeated Fullerton, 16-6, in last year’s CIF Southeast Division final. The Highlanders held Allain to 63 yards on 19 carries.
If that happens again, it will be celebration time in La Habra.
MORE OF THE CALHOUN SIX
GO HIGHLANDERS #1
There’s no IF that happens, Highlanders will be celebrating. Go La Habra!!
It will be a great game, no doubt. To all you La Habra fans living in a dream world, keep thinking this one will be easy….guess again. Bottom line, this one’s going to be a great game, no doubt.
Tribe it up!
The two Pac-5 teams La Habra lost to this season were Los Alamitos and San Clemente; both highly respected and rated teams. We played them to make us even a better and dominant team for the POST season.
We have a good handle on the dynamics of the Freeway League and will continue to take care of business there. Our listing in the top 10 this season validates our program and the toughest schedule in the League. Steve Fryer said it best, “La Habra is the best team in the CIF-Southern Section Southwest rankings, no matter the consensus of those who vote on CIF rankings.”
Its not arrogance, but facts backed by the numbers and consistency of the program year after year.
In the end, it will be up to the boys to show who has the most heart to win. La Habra will continue to do what they do time and time again and looks forward to proving it.
This will be our toughest League game this season, but by no means the toughest game we’ll play this year. Los Alamitos and San Clemente were an excellent challenge and within reach throughout the games. In the end, only 7 points separated the teams in each game. Last year’s CIF game had a spread of 10.
Who’s the best team in the Freeway League? We’ll find out this Friday! No excuses and enough lip service, just get out there and prove it.

fullerton will ask for another coin flip if ended in another tie ps your going to need it la habra going to beat you like we own ya
I don’t see this game being that close unless La Habra slips up. The Highlanders are strong, and will benefit from playing Los Al and SC in a game like this.
I think Fullerton will find out what level it needs to get to by the postseason in this one.
Gee Chris, such insightful commentary! The Indians are just fine, and know just what they have to do. You’ve watched all of their games have you? Watch their extremely physical, fast defense have you? I’m sure you haven’t, you just toe the OCR’s love affair with La Habra. This isn’t a bang on La Habra thread, kudos for stepping up and playing the D! schools they did. As a matter of fact, La Habra is a good football team. But all you guys do is talk about these guys. We’ve done some nice things this year ourselves.
This is the game to watch!!!!!!!!!!!
Both teams are good but too much confidence will affect LH game.
Good Luck!!!!!!
Oh Fullerton… STILL trying to get respect
So much talk about La Habra, that there gonna run us over and win this friday……. thats nothing but talk from U guys…. i was there when la habra lost to Los Alamitos, you guys R good but so is Fullerton… these two teams are really good, ill say the two best in the southwest division but FULLERTON its gonna take it this friday… besides that there really good there really motivated to prove what there made of… whats the best place for FULLERTON to show and prove it in La Habra…. SO LA HABRA FANS i wouldnt be so confident this friday cause a FOOTBALL TEAMS GIVES MORE THAN A 100% WHEN THERE MOTIVATED!!!!!!!!!!!
FULLERTON 28 LA HABRA21
Fullerton is definitely the under dog here but I believe that they tend to play better when they are confronted with a greater challenge as compared to when they play a weaker team. La Habra is a big challenge so I think that will hype up the Tribe. Go Indians!
You’re absolutely right Indian Pride, football teams do give more than 100% when they are motivated, and I would bet La Habra is fully motivated.
Go LH!!
Indian pride, Sorry but the 2 best teams in the southwest would be La Habra/Tustin and then Fullerton. Tustin is the team flying under the rader but you can’t dismiss a 10 to 0 loss to OL. They lost 3 games the first 2 with out that Wikerson kid who was injured.
I was at the La Habra vs San Clemente game. That was probably the last good team La Habra has played, up until this Friday Night. They have only played two good teams, Los Al & San Clemente.
The key to this game will be Ronnie Hillman. I watched him and the play calling. What they do is send Ronnie spilt out- for pass, or send him on a sweep. Those two plays are dangerous. He mustered up over a 150 yards rushing on a bad ankle.
John Quezada, runs the quick toss and off tackle play. So the defense must stay home.
Randall Nygren- Qb keeper up the middle , to keep the backers and safeties honest.
With all that said……. The Indians are going have their hands full, I hope their coaches scouted well, and remember the game we watched together that night.
The key for the Indians. The Indians must score first and keep La Habras offense off the field. Turn overs, The Indians must come up with some big plays on defense.
GOOD LUCK TO BOTH TEAMS!
This just in…breaking news, Indians10-8 winners over La Habra in the JV contest at Fullerton High!…a slugfest precursor to tomorrow night. This should, barring a MAJOR upset by Troy next week, give the Indians the Freeway League Championship at the JV level….
Tribe!
Dam this is a hell of a match up…goodluck to both teams, I wish i could be in a big game like this ….Ima have to give it to fullerton…but dont get me wrong la habra is a hell of a team …Good luck to both teams.
Ooh what a “slugfest” 10-8, call it a slugfest when it’s 53-6 like LH freshman who whooped “The Tribe”…
I wouldn’t call 53-6 anything but what it is, a whooping…probably not much of a game at all. A slugfest is 10-8 because that means there was an “actual” football game being played, not a whooping.
Can I get a “whoop whoop”or is it slug fest? Oh well, whichever the correct description, WAY TO GO LA HABRA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FREEWAY LEAGUE CHAMPS AGAIN
The Fllerton JV victory was based on the DEFENSE scoring. One fumble recovery and one safety. Where was the offense? Yes, you heard me right, Fullerton’s offense did NOT score.
Final score last night, La Habra 24, Fullerton 7. I think that about says it all.
Chris, you were right on with your comments above. Fullerton DID find out where they need to be in the post season.
Freeway League champs…again.
