If Tesoro beats Dana Hills today does that move them up to 7th in the Division II rankings? It seems to be the way they are doing it. (Dana Hills beats Mission Viejo and moves to 7th from consideration (11th or 12th) and Mission Viejo beats Long Beach Wilson moves up to 8th from 9th although they have lost 5 out of their last 6 games).
Lets say Tesoro beats Dana Hills and moves to 7th then El Modena beats Tesoro and Canyon beats Dana Hills on Wednesday does that mean El Modena is 7th and Canyon is 8th?
It appears that the coaches that rank the Division II schools feel that the South Coast League is very strong and should be ranked no matter what. Why is Tesoro given consideration (11th or 12th)? What quality wins do they have? A blow out win against Capo Valley (4th in the South Coast League)? Why is Canyon not ranked or given consideration when they have beaten Tesoro? It is sad to see these coaches rank the teams in their own league for a possible first round home game and possibly a win or two in the CIF playoffs.
JSerra should probably be No. 4 in Division II but fourth-fifth are essentially the same, so the Lions shouldn't stress too much
Actually, the final regular season rankings and the seeding for D II will be far different.
JSerra, if they finish second in Trinity and they should, wil have to be either a 3, 6 or 7 seed to avoid a possible rematch with Mater Dei till the Finals, which is a CiF playoff rule.
Servite, a third place entry, will probably ruin someone's day in the first round, as they will be seeded lower than they deserve.
The South Coast Champion, a possible five way tie for first looms out there, will probably be seeded higher in the playoffs than their record would warrant.......and see Servite.
It is hard not to see La Canada and Riverside Poly as 3 or 4 seeds, as they both will be league champions and have played in all the major tournaments.
And when it all comes down to it, it doesn't really matter where you are in the polls but only where you are on November 22.
South Coast League and Century League teams have met 10 times this year. In those ten meeting the Century League has walked away victorious 7 times (only one of those wins was by Villa Park). Five of the six teams in the South Coast League have been either ranked or mentioned in the Division ll rankings this year. Yet only two teams in the Century League have been either ranked or mentioned in Division ll this year? To boot, the South Coast League’s top two teams have had quite a bit of trouble in recent weeks with the Century league’s fifth place team, Brea Olinda; with Mission Viejo loosing to them (12-9) and Dana Hills needing a double overtime to defeat them (15-13)!
What’s wrong with the ranking system??? Don’t other teams deserve recognition for there efforts???
How about Costa Mesa finally being ranked in Division III.Great job to the Serrano twins and the rest of the team. They are a very good team that has an excellent coach. Good luck in the CIF playoffs.
Now that Tesoro has lost to Dana Hills and is now in 4th in the South Coast League and will probably not make the CIF playoffs were should they be ranked? San Clemente is 3rd place in the South Coast League and will probably make the CIF playoffs. Will San Clemente move into the top ten or get consideration with a loosing record? That would be a shame since there are other teams in Division II that have worked hard all year and have had great success in the pool who will not get the chance to see their schools name in the rankings.
The coaches from the Century League are supposed to be giving their input to the committee that ranks the divisions. If the coaches of the programs don't care enough to report scores and information that may change their situation, they shouldn't really complain if/when they aren't represented.
So the responsibility of the rankings are on the coach's to call and lobby the ranking coach's? Don't the coach's who took on the responsibility to rank teams have the responsibility to do a little research before they rank teams? It doesn't take much. I think anyone who looks at this site can do a pretty good job at ranking the teams. I am positive that all of the coach's who do the rankings look at this site. Even Dan Albano can see there is something wrong. Why do you think he reported that the Century league is like 10 and 3 (or something like that) against the South Coast League? You think Villa Park is calling them every week and lobbying to be in the top 10? I don't think so.
Upon further review, JSerra is worthy of the No. 3 seed in Division II.
Heading into Wednesday's action - I'd go with 1. Mater Dei; 2 Villa Park; 3. JSerra
Look for Tesoro to apply for an at-large berth as the No. 4 in the South Coast League. I believe the Titans are .500 and thus are eligible as the No. 4 (beat Capo)
WOW, looks like the South Coast League put a hurting on the Century League tonight. Ouch!
Santa Margarita with a big win over JSerra as well!!
Things are getting interesting.
old dude and elmo dad are obviously from and for the century league. fyi when brea beat mission they were without baker's 90 plus goals and when dana played brea they won without matchett's 100 plus goals. both did not play. by the way both el mo and canyon got beat today by tesoro and dana hills. how does the south coast leagues 4th place team beat the century leagues second place team?
el mo dad i just took a look at your season. you guys do not have 1 quality win against any schools in div 1 or 2 in the top 10. that might be the softest schedule i've seen in years. all your games against good teams were loses. you did however beat trabuco hills twicen norco and laguna hills. against quality opponents like jserra, thousand oks, davis, ect.... you guys laid an egg! thats the softest 22-5 record in the county!
I believe there are 3 or 4 new coaches in the Century League which may or may not know that they are responsible to lobby the ranking coaches.
Both Canyon and El Mo found out the hard way that you can get behind by 4 or 5 goals and expect to win the game. I sure both Canyon and El Mo would like to play those games again. It looks like both Leagues are very competitive and it would be fun to see more games between the two Leagues. It would also be nice to see both Leagues get similar consideration in the CIF rankings.
anyone who has been around for a while knows most coaches polls are useless. they are for boosters and "look at me" coaches. it's a good o'l boys club and any "new kid on the block" doesn't have a chance to get ranked unless you beat a ranked team and the losing coach refuses to make excuses. but no worries, we have a playoff system and many unranked teams gotcha right we they want you. guessing!!!!!
Check out Division VII. Kennedy earned thier spot. This team will surprise you! Now I hear that teams ranked 4th might get a shot to play, too? Is that fair?
GO IRISH!
What is this?
RIghetti (D4)
beat Malibu AND Arroyo Grande within a two week period just now.
why have they sat at number 7???
what else do they have to do?
hopefully they will get some respect winning the playoffs.
Western will beat y'all in Div VII. Get those rings men!!
Are you going to post the Nov. 10 Rankings???
