Fryer's teams 21-25

Here are Steve Fryer's teams 21-25:

21. Canyon (4-4). The Comanches stayed in contention for a playoff berth with a 31-9 victory over El Modena. They actually trailed early, 9-0. Canyon's defense was sharp in the second half, in which it did not allow El Modena to advance past the Comanches' 40-yard line. Canyon, in a three-way tie for second place with El Dorado and Villa Park, plays 1-7 Brea Olinda this week and 4-4 Villa Park next week.

22. Corona del Mar (7-2). While it was expected that the Sea Kings would beat University, the one-sided score was a surprise. They beat the Trojans, 48-7, as Dillon Norton had four receptions for 108 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 41 yards and a touchdown on three carries. Corona del Mar's losses were to good teams – Laguna Hills and Newport Harbor. The Sea Kings, 2-1 and in second-place in the five-team Pacific Coast League, have a bye this week then conclude the league and regular season next week against Beckman.

23. Irvine (6-2). The Vaqueros had a bye last week, and now get ready to take on Pacific Coast League-leading Laguna Hills on Thursday, at Irvine. Irvine lost by one, 14-13, to Corona del Mar two weeks ago, and has a 1-1 league record. The Vaqueros had won six in a row before that loss. Their odd schedule has them closing the season next week with a league game against University, against whom the Sea Kings opened the season with a nonleague game (a 7-6 loss) on Sept. 5.

24. Valencia (6-2). They needed a momentum-building victory. The Tigers got one, with a 45-0 triumph over Katella one week after a tough 15-10 loss to Cypress. Isaac Dominguez rushed for 140 yards and three touchdowns. They are 2-1 in league, with games remaining against 3-5 Kennedy and 5-3 Loara.

25. St. Margaret's (8-0) The Tartans beat Brethren Christian, 70-6, in a league opener in the four-team Academy League. Let's look at some numbers, re: Tartan football. They have five shutouts. They are averaging 50 points a game while allowing five a game. The average margin of victory is 45 points. And they play 0-8 Capistrano Valley this week, and 2-6 Sage Hill next week.

it's funny how cypress is ranked above cdm when cdm beat irvine who cypress lost to. weird

  • matt says:

well maybe if cdm played in a league like the empire league they would ... didnt irvine lose to university who cypress beat?

  • #9 says:

ya thats true but im pretty sure cdm killed uni so i dont think u rlly have an arguement there.

  • #9 says:

btw the pcl league is just as good as the empire league if not better

  • CKings says:

i would have to agree with #9 there.

  • matt says:

Really hmmm, Loara, Kennedy, Valencia, Cypress, and Pacifica justs sounds like a difficult bunch.
Oh wait ... now your league, CDM, Laguna Hills, Irvine, University ahhh just not doing it for me.
Considering that the champion of the Southern Division the last two years has come from the Empire league. Wait, has anyone from your league even made it to the semis?
NOPE ... because seven out of the last eight semifinal spots have gone to empire league teams the other going to anaheim.
But thats right you guys are just as good! I forgot!

  • #9 says:

so you rlly think that anyone from the empire league has as good a chance to win it this year considering Laguna Hills is having the best season they have had in years and both CDM and Irvine have solid teams that could beat the best team in the Empire league, which is prolly Cypress... now tell me how is the empire league better than the pcl when 3 of the teams are better than the number one team in the empire

  • matt says:

Simply one word COACHING. Cypress and Valencia easily have better coaches that will prepare their teams better. Laguna Hills was 9-1 going into the first round last year when they lost to Cypress. It was clear cut that Laguna Hills was out coached, especially if you were at the game. You are not putting up a very good agrument here.
Also the Empire league has moved up a division because of their sucess in the Southern Division. So you wont be seeing any of us in the playoffs. LUCKY YOU
