OC Varsity ~ High school sports talk by the staff of the Orange County Register

Fryer's teams 11-15

November 3rd, 2008, 5:22 pm · 11 Comments · posted by STEVE FRYER, ocvarsity.com

Here are Steve Fryer's teams 11-15:

11. La Habra (6-2). The Highlanders fell out of the top 10, because Fountain Valley has beaten Newport Harbor and Los Alamitos the past two weeks. La Habra was 0-2 against such Pac-5 opponents, Los Alamitos and San Clemente. Still, La Habra is the best team in the CIF-Southern Section Southwest rankings, no matter the consensus of those who vote on CIF rankings.

12. Esperanza (6-2). The Aztecs beat Marina by three and Fountain Valley by three, then lost to Newport Harbor by 29. Their final two games, both Sunset League games – Los Alamitos this week, Edison next week. It is very difficult to win in any Pac-5 league without an effective passing game. Esperanza can make the playoffs, but will need some not-so-far-fetched help the next two weeks, starting with an Edison victory over Fountain Valley this week.

13. Dana Hills (5-3). Quarterback Sean Schroeder did not have to throw much in the Dolphins' 57-14 victory over Aliso Niguel. But of his 15 passes, four were for touchdowns. He has 27 touchdown passes this season; Mission Viejo's Allan Bridgford is the county leader with 28.

14. Laguna Hills (8-0). The Hawks shut out Beckman, 24-0. They conclude the regular season Thursday against Irvine, which is 6-2 overall and 1-1 in the Pacific Coast League. Laguna Hills plays only nine-regular season games. After Irvine, the Hawks have a bye before the playoffs. They play in the Southern Division.

15. Foothill (7-1). Their 20-15 victory over Trabuco Hills gave the Knights sole possession of first place in the Sea View League. Zach Griffith completed 16 of 26 passes for 304 yards and two touchdowns. Foothill's final two games are against teams that are 2-6 – Northwood and El Toro.

why is laguna hills above foothill
when they only put up 24 points against beckman...

  • 12324 says:

ya, u moved down foothill last week
    for beating woodbridge 34-0
why not move laguna hills down?

  • Country says:

Steve's probably comparing common opponents to settle where LH and Foothill belong. LH did handle Trabuco Hills early in the season pretty easily. Winning 26-6 while Foothill barely got by 20-15 last week.

  • warren says:

The only way La Habra can stay where it is will be to beat Fullerton, not an easy thing to do these days.

  • football paul says:

I would like the Knights to be higher too. This is the best team Foothill has had in 5 years. LH beat Trabuco without it's starting quarterback. If I'm not mistaken he missed Trabuco's 1st 3 games. 11-15 are all good teams and I don't think there is much difference between them. 2 weeks left, Go Knights.

  • 1234 says:

Trabucos qb played in the first 3 quarters of the LH game.i watched it on game of the week and he didnt do much in there anyway. Granted hes playing extreamly well now, as is the entire trabuco team

  • 12324 says:

not true he didnt start or play very much on first 3 games
and not counting many other starters that didnt play that game

  • 5678 says:

why do you guys think you know everything. the trabucco qb hurt his arm in the 3rd quater in the laguna game. oh and laguna beat woodbrige 45-9. woodbridge scored on the scout defense

  • football paul says:

Don't get too excited about beating Woodbridge 45-9. Coach Case could have scored 50 but he was classy and settled for 34-0, pulling Foothill's 1st team for most of the 3rd and all of the 4th quarter.

  • anonymous says:

And you don't think Laguna pulled their starters after they were up 38-0? Well they did and then their JV team scored on woodbridge. Foothill fans on this board are absolute morons. I understand that its exciting you finally have a respectable team but don't come into the 11-15 category and start demanding a higher ranking. Just be grateful you got mentioned.

  • #9 says:

actually laguna scored with their second team offense twice that game and the first team was pulled out of the game with over half of the third quarter left
