Here’s a little rationale on the Barons’ placement:
I debated placing Fountain Valley seventh or eighth - behind either Mission Viejo or OLu but at the end, the Barons have gotten the job done in back-to-back games against LosAl and Newport. That was enough for me to look past some unimpressive wins against Pacifica and PV and loss in OT against Espy.
Mission Viejo’s defense makes the Diablos feel like a run-and-gun team like San Clemente or Dana Hills. Orange Lutheran has a very good win against Bosco and better-than-it-seems victory against Tustin. But after that, the Lancers’ resume is flat.
But there’s so much parity this season, there really isn’t much separating all these teams in the top-10. That’s why this has been such a fun season.
Hope some of these teams meet in the playoffs.

tamaolei’a - Your Barons have certainly earned their ranking but they have a giant game this week against Edison. The Barons (2-1 in lg) then close with an improved Marina. But because of how they have played, it appears the Barons can control their destiny if they play well.
Barons stay on course play one quarter at a time and you will bet Edison don’t get caught up in the hype, just go play your game and you will be the winners and bring the Bell back home to FVHS good luck boys FVHS Grama….

In regards to the Barons season so far I think everyone is over looking the fact that the Jr. QB Ragland stepped into a rough spot in week two when Santana went down. He was the starting FS and WR to start the season. He’s playing better every week and the team record is showing for it. Middlebrooks is amazing but he’s not doing it alone. Ragland has made clutch plays late in both the NH and Los Al games to help seal the deal. Those two are going to be a force next year when they are seniors.

I think the Barons are looking good right now,but focus is the word shipp needs to be preaching to his boy’s. Also as the playoffs near they need to be looking to some other weapons, as teams will be keying on the obvious players. One thing i do know, Ragland is a leader, i have seen him work his game for the Garden Grove Bulldog’s time and time again. He is the kind of player who is poised and takes pride in his game.One other thing..hopefully the Barons will be ready to defend the screen that Edison ran time and time again last year.Win the Bell by ringing some Bells boy’s!!!

I will be the first to be critical of San Clemente’s in ability to win big games. But consider their 2 losses are to MV and Tesoro, and in both games they were driving late in 4th quarter in opponent’s territory to win the game, I am amazed at the lack of respect San Clemente got.
I love FV, it is my 2nd favorite team, but moved them all the way to 6 just because they beat Los Al?? What is the love fest with Newport Harbor?? Because they beat an overrated Esperanza team??? You guys put NH up after they beat Mira Costa too (because, according to Fryer, MC had beat Esperanza) Give me an effing break. Some of your staff even moved La Habra up after they lost to Los Al, thinking they belong in top 10. But when San Clemente lost two close tough games against #1 and #6 teams in the couty, they got dropped?? It is just unbelievable to me the lack of respect SC gets.

Reason why i picked the Barons: They have quickest defense and had back-to-back upset victories over top-10 teams ( Including #2 los al).

Orange County strength in leagues is why you drop so far.
FV is playing very well right now and is a much improved team from last year and even from the begining of this year. However Edison is a very well rounded team at this point in the season and should be at full strength with everyone healthy. They will rise to the occasion and keep the bell for the 4th consecutive year. Chargers by 7.
EHS - you weren’t paying attn last week everyone doubted the Barons against Newport, and against Los AL…again “THE DOUBT” this is what Edison will carry with them all week, the parents, the administration, the student body, their coaches, and the athletes.
Yeah, they rooted for the Barons against Los AL because of the over confidence, the arrogance, the swagger, etc. they will walk around practice get slow, bricks in their feet, while no one will speak about it….Here it is EDISON carries the doubt of WHAT IF?

All those Edison Chargers reading the post….the little DOUBT you carry is all it takes, it’s like an infectious disease, it will spread through the entire school and community…WHAT IF? Everyone will be scared to talk about it, but it lingers in the heart of every Edison Charger player, coaching staff, in the stands, with the band, etc.
Edison so arrogant and overconfident with a cocky swagger will feel it necessary not to run the extra steps to the sideline, they will cut corners on sprints, they will talk about everything not related to the Bell Game in practice, hang out with their girlfriends, congregate with the cheerleaders, think about what they are going to do after the game. Edison has every expectation to win the game, but will always carry that DOUBT…WHAT IF? and before they know it games over.

It’s going to a great game the top ten listings it says a lot about the competition in the Sunset League. However, the Barons will prevail we don’t pay mind to what happened in the past do we still talk about what happened a couple of weeks ago when Edison got spanked by Los AL , NO, we’re talking about the BELL WEEK, the greatest rival in Orange County.

I think we’re doing really well, but I’m sure Edison has “upped” their game after seeing our 2 wins. But anyways, I hope for the best.

This game has real heat. It’s always a great rivalry and now that FV has risen up and posted some huge wins it should be very competitive.

Reading all of this rivalry talk is quite entertaining. From growing up in Orange Co., this has to be the best rivarly compared to any other, just like UCLA/USC. It will be a great game this year, I have no doubt.
I do find it interesting, however, that FV fans keep posting “Barons - Sunset League Champs 2008″, while the Edison fans on here seem to be much more humble in general.
FV fans should be careful, posting “League Champs” before you actually are is bad karma…
Whats funny is that all the FV posters seem to come alive this week. Where have they been all season? FV is a very good team this year and is playing well at the right time. Edison is a well-coached, disciplined team that will do all its talking on the field. They have been in big games year after year and play against the best so they know how to rise to the occasion. They will not be cocky and have no doubts about this game. They are a confident team that knows how to win ball games. Both teams will be playing their best games on Friday Night. Go Chargers!!!
