OCVarsity Offensive star of the week

November 1st, 2008, 12:57 pm · · posted by

With the Golden West League title on the line, the Westminster Lions turned to No. 21 and he didn’t disappoint.

The week 8 offensive star is …

Aaron Garbutt, Westminster, Sr., RB

Garbutt (bio and stats) rushed for 216 yards and four touchdowns and he completed one pass for a touchdown (yes, he accounted for all five Westminster touchdowns) as the Lions defeated Segerstrom, 33-28 Thursday.

Since Garbutt was moved to running back at the beginning of October, he has rushed for 680 yards — an average of 170 yards per game. That’s big time.

  • CARLOS ARIAS says:

I’m going with Garbutt. He is the real deal. If you haven’t seen him, you will realize the truth when you do.

  • Trinity League, OMG! says:

Thats nice for these lower divisions but can somebody please look at Portis of Servite who kicked OLU’s butt the whole night? I promise you if put Portis agianst any of the other two teams represented on the previous posts, he would rush for 7 TD’s, and over 300 yards. The Trinity League is by far the most powerful division in the County and they will show it in CIF…

josh brannon over 250yds rushing and 5 tds vs better competition….show him some respect…has been the workhorse since huizar got injured

  • Champions Train says:

Although the competion isn’t the best, Magnolia’s Robert Cruz, is something special. The team CANT pass and he is the only weapon on the team. Other team put 10 in the box and still cant stop this kid!
Magnolia’s offense is very predictable , everything is ran between the tackles.

  • Damian Calhoun, OCVarsity.com since 2004 says:

    Champions Train:
Cruz could be Star O’ the week every week. The kid is amazing.

    overlookphs:
I’m not overlooking Josh Brannon, I’m aware of the run that he has been on, especially since the start of league season.

  • Studio684 says:

Both Cruz, and Brannon have been putting up big numbers all year. Trinity League OMG – imagine what these two backs would do if they ran behind the hogs in the Trinity League. Where was Portis at the Mater Dei game, and the Hogs then.

I was at the game..love to my nephew on the Friars roster. Thomas made the adjustments needed on defense for the OLu game another nephew on the OLu team. Plain and simple Orange County produces a lot of athletes of all walks of life.

  • Brent Brady says:

U can also make a case 4 Josh Brannon of Pacifica vs a tough Kennedy Defense. He sat out I believe the entire 4th Qtr with 245yds rushing & 5 TD’s.

If the 1st string offense played in the 4th, Brannon could have easily topped 300yds & 6TD’s.

  • Mike says:

OMG shut up! Garbutt is a legit Div I prospect. Quit thinking Servite is almighty. What was the results last time Servite played Westminster? Do you even know,,,,,let me tell you… Westminster kicked Servite’s a$$ at Servite’s homecoming game the last time they played….look it up…Servite can’t even get past the first round…bye bye…
