COSTA MESA — Down 14-0 at halftime, the Fountain Valley Barons turned to their best player to help spearhead a dramatic comeback.
Junior running back Kyle Middlebrooks scored two touchdowns, while junior cornerback Ryan Steadman ended the game with a spectacular interception on the goal line, as the Barons pulled out a thrilling 21-14 overtime victory over No. 2 — and previously undefeated — Los Alamitos.
The Griffins (7-1, 2-1) put the first points of the game on the board late in the first quarter. Evans lofted a pass to left corner of the end zone, where Paul Richardson out-leaped a Baron defender for a 28-yard touchdown catch. Kicker Zach Kadletz’s extra point was no good.

Steadman…is NOT a senior…
What about Mosley????
No kio sherlock he is a junior on the 9-1 team with middlebrook I know I helped coach the team
Fountain Valley is getting lucky. They will lose to Edison. That coach will find some way to blow the game! That team is a fluke. They have one great player in Middlebrooks who is carrying the team. Eventually once a team stacks the box to stop him, they will have no more answers.
Wait till next week Edison!
No kio? What the heck is that?
Excuse me, Fountain Valley rocks okay, ahah. Go Barons!
Sunset League Champions 2008 The Barons, where was Edison the week of Los Al everyone plays banged up Barons have the fastest defense in the league
James must be a frank fry fan the three F’s
If Esperanza stopped Middlebrooks…Edison will DEFINITELY figure it out…Edison wins the Bell once again!
The Mouth Has Spoken
Esperanza squeezed a lucky victory for a team ranked top 10 there is a difference momentum So BIG MOUTH comeback next Friday night to apologize for your lack of football experience and know hows.
All Mouth!
Sorry the truth hurts but it had to be said (ESPERANZA)!
yeah, brudda no worries you must be an Edison Charger wannabe
Excuses, excuses…funny fealofani, you are the first one to point out that Edison should have played better injured, but your loss was just a “lucky victory” for Esperanza? You need to check your lack of football knowledge…Coach? Give Esperanza some credit…they beat you!
Edison loses and they are weak?
Fountain Valley loses and they are unlucky?
If you want to come back here next week and make excuses for another “UNLUCKY” Fountain Valley game…The Mouth will be waiting!
The bell will stay in Huntington!
Don’t get mad that talent was always there they were finding their Chi….case in point everyone said Los Al’s win was due to Edison not having three of their players when it was actually one. Please don’t get so misconstrued if you’re ranked top 10 all year please give credit where credit is due…Esparanza won but not by a top 10 rank standard.
Edison lost to Los Al with both teams playing with some injuries, but you’re not listening teams get complacent and the fire dies out when expectations are set so high. Fountain Valley’s only expectations this year was to play the kind of football they know they can play and let everything fall where they may.
Edison will be scrambling all week with a doubt…that’s it a doubt county wide they will be saying what if FVHS does, they did against Newport, and against Los Al. The DIFFERENCE MOMENTUM you don’t know what you’re talking about EDISON WANNABE mouth.
It’s about MOMENTUM please refer to a dictionary and look it up. Momentum this late into the season is what teams like Edison will do and this doubt. The players, the coaches, the families, and the community. It will be sitting in the back of their minds all week when dads are at work, the moms at home, the siblings playing, and the school administration.
It’s normal to doubt. All those transfers that went to Edison stay there. Those great athletes standing on the sidelines who are not getting a fair shake at playing time please you’re more than welcome to the Barons program. BE MAD BECAUSE IT IS YOUR DOUBT?
Fountain Valley is not that great of a team. They have one great player. Edison’s defense will stop Middlebrook and that will be that. As far as finding their Chi, what does that have to do with anything. Fountain Valley has found their chi, his name is Middlebrook. Thats it! Nothing else.
If we refer to the dictionary for MOMENTUM, will you please use your grammar key on your computer.
I watched Fountain Valley play Tesoro early this season. The Barons lost 29-13, but hung in there.
I will be voting Fountain Valley into my top 10 ballot this week, no doubt about it.
Dear James, that’s it the MIDDLEBROOK show, but again as you were not listening the Barons pound for pound have the fastest defense in the Sunset League. Offense wins games, but Defense wins Championships. Please refer to some nearby study guides about defense because it’s about finding rhythm on defense and a good flow sideline to sideline. Offensively they will be fine and Middlebrook will find some holes. DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS and next week SUNSET LEAGUE CHAMPS – THE BARONS.
For all you transfers that are at Edison, stay at Edison. The coaching is way better there and the competition is better. If you practice against the elite players at practice everyday, you will get better. If you go to a weaker school it will just bring your game down.
Yes, thank you ctobolski they are really riding the wave right now and will carry it next week.
James I apologize if you do not know how to use a dictionary I am old school and new to tech I will use my grammar key next time. You must be a Edison Charger Wannabe also like mouth. School spirit is fun so see you next Friday night after the Bell Game.
The fastest defense in the sunset league? That may be so but Edisons O line will pound FV’s line. Edison’s line is going to move the ball all game.
Take it easy…no need to get so upset, Fountain Valley is a good team and no one is disputing that. Heading into the Los Al game Edison’s players in question were still injured (Spence played with a broken foot). All three were supposed to be out but came back injured and played because it was a huge game (with Crissman being the only one unable to play).
Edison made mistakes and it was obvious to all, but that being said, I will stand by the team with the most overall talent. Fountain Valley basis the team around ONE very talented player. Stop him and you stop Fountain Valley’s “momentum”. This momentum may be what you’re basing the final outcome on…Edison will use skill, teamwork and excellent coaching to stop your “Middlebrooks” momentum. See you Friday…
SUNSET LEAGUE CHAMPS 2008 – THE BARONS, it will all come down to DEFENSE.
I’m actually not an Edison fan although I did grow up in Huntington. I graduated from servite thank you very much. I just think that FV is a good team but take Middlebrook away and they are average at best. I watched Edison and they are a really good team. I just think they will be able to beat FV after holding Middlebrook down.
You’re right! It will come down to defense! Edisons defense stuffing Middlebrook!
I have a nephew at Servite and my son and clan of nephews about 18 of them between three classes will all be Friars. My nephew Kirifi, and friends that have kids there love the tradition and discipline that comes with being at Servite.
Good night all, got to go to bed. My son has a playoff game tomorrow for his ocjaaf team. Great debate! We will see what happens next week.
Okay James see you next week with your tail tucked between your legs.
Yeah, my son and nephews have a game tomorrow at Irvine they all play OCJAAF say no to POP-WARNER
Edison does not have any doubt…they were all rooting for Fountain Valley tonight to win because they KNOW that they can beat you next week. You had their full support tonight. Edison players, coaches, mom’s, dad’s and the Huntington Beach Community is VERY CONFIDENT that the Bell will stay in HB.
You might need to use this forum to get your players pumped up with your comments fealofani, but Edison will continue to stick to their game plan…MANY weapons, not just one.
Taulua is a great player. Hope your kids are all as good as he is and make sure they go to Servite. We need to build that program up.
To Big mouth, or was it mush mouth and James, I have read all of your comments and you make no sense. Fountain valley has been underated for a long time and now people are taking notice that they are not fakes. Defense wins games and offense scores points which is how they won. The Sunset league teams are good so why would you put the other teams down when they win? No one is mentioning the unsportsmanship that was shown tonight by Los Al when three of the Barons players were down. The other team disregarded what was happening on the field and Coach Barnes didn’t have the decency to have his player take a knee. James, they said the same thing about Middlebrooks being stopped on the last two games he’s played. He’s hasn’t been stopped yet! The Barons will get the bell back next week so stop hating and start congratulating.
Goodnight!
From: Rayray
Edison will beat FV, so my tail will be standing tall!
Quick question, if you are such a huge FV fan andyou coached there, why won’t your kids and nephews play there? Why isn’t Taulua playing for his uncle over at FV either?
Have you not seen Edison’s defense? Thanks for the vote…if it comes down to defense as you say, Edison has the stronger defense…look at the stats! Looks like you’ll be picking Edison and their defense to win then!
It looks like FV-Edison is the place to be next week for the Battle for the Bell.
The Mouth again that will be Edison’s downfall the arrogance, cockiness, the strut and swagger, which will make them complacent because those things accompanied with the “DOUBT” will set them up for the for failure “SHOCK AND AWE” when they face the Barons.
The complacency, the slow feet, the heavy bricks in their feet that will loom in practice all week if they feel that confident will doom them next week.
My boys and family need to stay away from chasing girls during school time, GOD, FAMILY, ACADEMICS, then football…..no girls during training.
Good point! Where do they play now?
fealofani: That is a very strict regiment, but a good one when in training. Go G.F.A.F.!!! Ask all the champions, they didn’t let outside distractions take them away from their goals.
Rayray…stop whining about being underrated. Your comments are nothing but complaining. Stop back by when you have something substantial to add.
Garden Grove….we were trying to build a super team with HBJAAF or FVJAAF because the south county teams, and inner city programs have such a feeding program Central OC should be doing the same. Also, the parents in South County are the kids from the 70′s, 80′s here in Central OC Huntington Beach, GG, FV, SA areas I know I run into everyone down there.
Great values fealofani…always put GOD first!
SEE YOU ALL BACK HERE AFTER THE BELL GAME…SHOULD BE ONE OF THE BEST GAMES IN YEARS!!
GO CHARGERS #1
GOD BLESS see everyone next Friday night you’re right great debate GO MCCAIN AND PALIN, YES ON 8
Oh ok my kids play at HBJAAF I think my older son play against you guys tomorrow night. Unfortunately I won’t be at that game because my daughter has a softball game at that time but my wife will be there. You guys have a talented team. The tailback and the wide out are great players. You guys destroyed us a few weeks ago with great defense and great offensive play calling. Alot of good formations and plays for a Jr pee wee team. Good luck tomorrow.
Always written by OCregister the greatest tradition of rivalry by two teams, the Bell Game, FVHS and Edison, the greatest rivalry in Orange County.
What a small world, you guys have a great chapter my nephew plays on clinic-orange good luck tomorrow.
Oh ok, I have another son on the flag team. Thanks good luck!
See we can agree fealofani…GO MCCAIN AND PALIN, YES ON 8.
Good luck in your playoff game tomorrow!
Can Fountain Valley continue is run with a victory over Edison next week? I covered The Bell Game for the first time last year and I was amazed at how physical it was.
Middlebrooks is the truth.
im independent, but please leave politics out of this blog. sick of it. it’s like bringing religion into politics… oops, the reps. already use that tactic. now, now, the dems are not perfect either! good luck to all your kids.
Middlebrooks has to be the fastest back in the county.
I haven’t see every back in the county, but it’s hard to imagine someone out there faster.
So, who is the fastest back in the county? Is it Middlebrooks?
The Mouth (also know as Mush Mouth), I must of had something to say because you are the only that commented. No need to complain when it’s the truth. You must not have been at the Esperanza game, if you had you would have know Fountain Valley was ahead until the last two minute of the game when yes, there defense let up. Everyones talking about how beat up Edison is as the excuse for them losing!!! No one at Fountain Valley is making the excuse that there starting quarterback was inquired for the season in the second quarter of the Tesoro game after running 40 yards. We are playing with a quarterback that has not played that position since his freshman year. That’s right, this is the freshaman team now playing on the varsity level who went 9/1 and the freshman team that went 10/0 the prior year. You talk about Fountain Valley only having Kyle Middlebrooks as the star player, what about the other teams like Mater Dei, Barkley/ Los Al , Evans,/Edison, Viles and Magnolia,Cruz.. What would happen if these star player were out? Every team has a player that stands out so I’m tied of hearing that we wouldn’t be anywhere if we didn’t have Middlebrooks. It’s the entire team and there team spirit that is putting Fountain Valley over the top.
Ray Ray…go back to sleep, wrong again…ever heard of Preston Spence, Jeff Crissman, Michael Rivera, Wade Houston, Davion Orphey, Jordan Zumwalt, Matt Reza, Jullien Herrera, Will Andrews, Bryce Brantley, Jeff Trojan? Yeah, they are all talked about as being play makers…stand outs, Edison has a WHOLE PACKAGE, not just Matt Viles.
Sorry that your tired of hearing about your ONE player but it is the truth…others have also mentioned this throughout the prior postings… whining and complaining once again!
Oh, I can name other players on the team too! We know all about the kids you just mentioned. Kyle played with most of them in JR All American. They tried to get him to come over to Edison; he could have gone to any school he wanted to but why go to a school with all your peers , they are not getting any playing time. Mikey. Davion (we all know about him) Wade come on now. Your mouth may be bigger than mine but you can’t out talk me. You need to look up the definition of whining. I’m stating facts. Like I said each team has a star player and you will need to wash that mouth out next week win we win, I guarantee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Didn’t Edison lose to Los Al? Oh yeah ,they did with there ” Whole Package”. LOL!
rayray now hes gonna say that 3 of their players were hurt
Good luck to everybody next friday. ( WRT***ONN )
Baby Ray Ray…can’t wait to see you come back next week and WHINE again about an “UNLUCKY” game like that loss to ESPERANZA!
You’ll probably be crying…poor baby Ray Ray…see you back here next week!
THE MOUTH HAS SPOKEN!
Hey RayRay, when are you gonna get back out there, on “The Glorious Field of Battle”! I played with some broken bone’s myself, and they never did heal right! You are #5, Right? Every team has to play hurt, some more hurt than other’s. That’s why it’s a Team sport and the back-up’s have to “Step-Up” when called upon, “Right Guy’s”!!! May all of your injury”s heal well, get back out on that field. And last but not least, “MAY THE BETTER TEAM WIN”!!! ENCORE OUT!!!
Hey I just went back and checked your blogg’s. You guy’s are great, so I’ll share some more! Out here in Las Vegas they don’t have anything like OCJAAF, or Pop-Warner. you guy’s are very blessed. I played for west garden grove ’70-’75. Back then, we beat north huntington beach and south huntingtonbeach, every year. East and West Garden Grove were the best team’s, with Lenny&Kenny Dykstra and Pat Compton at QB for those Great Team’s in the east! Mike Ross & Brad Helm in the west! We went Undefeated every year for those 6 year’s! Any of you remember that far back??? I’m looking at my Red WGGJAAF Jacket and both sleeves are covered with jr.pee wee, pewee, and midget leauge champion patch’s (6of them) one for every year I played! Throw in a couple of conference champion and runner’s-up’s patch’s and my sleeves are covered! Thank’s West Garden Grove for a great time in my life! …. Long Live the CRUNCHBUNCH… ENCORE OUT!!!
Hey rayray. What are you taking about Los Al not taking a knee. After the missed field goal it was FV ball with 3 seconds left. How can Los Al take a knee without the ball?
twicelow hes talking about how after the field goal stead and manzon were hurt ,im not sure what happened i couldnt watch the field goal too suspensful, stead got up after like a minute but manzon was down for a good 2-5 minutes people from the stands were yelling to the los al players to take a knee but they wouldnt
Encore ,It is nice to here from good people in las Vegas . I coach at Garden Grove panther back in 1997-2000. Where your chapter the rams/or who? that was the good old days. ONLY ONE CHAMPIONSHIP ON THE FLAG TEAM (5&6) YEAR OLD BOYS AND ONE GIRL NAMED ASHLEY. She play as are QB,LB and was tuff.
Oh wow, a lot of discussion on here. Well, as a current FV student, I am hoping that we’ll win this year. (: I want the Barons to win at least once before I graduate, haha.
Hey OC, if I remember right??? The Fountian Valley Barron’s had K. Margerum and Willie Gitten’s, and won a CIF Title! Margerum played in a SuperBowl with the Bear’s! Gitten’s went to ASU ??? At PaCIFica Norm Johnson kicked his way into the Pro-Bowl and a SuperBowl! We had alot of talent in the OC back in the day too! I hit Mitch Olsen at Los Al so hard he lost his mouthpiece!!! But a Monster named Rick Senteno broke my facemask, I think he was OC Def. player of the year that year! It was a great battle, Coach Craven Vs. Coach Barnes 30 year’s ago just like it was yesterday! C U Later OC > ENCORE OUT…
Sunset League Champs 2008 – The Barons
The Greatest Finish from any team in the Sunset League.
