SANTA ANA -- Santa Ana advanced to 2-1 in the Golden West League by defeating Saddleback, 28-0, Thursday night at Santa Ana Stadium.
The Saints (5-3, 2-1) handled the Roadrunners (0-8, 0-3) on the strength of a well-balanced offense and strong defense.
Running backs Bobby Peralta and Frankie Nereida combined for 107 yards on 18 carries and each rushed for a touchdown.
Quarterback Christopher Ledesma added to the Saints’ attack, completing 9 of 14 passes for 179 yards and one touchdown to Dave Gomez.
“Our goal all week was to be balanced and I think we accomplished that goal,” Saints coach Scott Daniels said.
The Saints defense brought their “A” game, holding the Roadrunners to 182 yards of total offense. The Saints forced the Roadrunners to become one-dimensional by shutting down the their passing game.
The Roadrunners rushed the ball 42 times for 119 yards. The Saints only allowed quarterback Anthony Lopez to complete 3 of 10 passes for 63 yards with one interception.
At the start of the second quarter Santa Ana defensive back Jason Zerecero had a 59-yard interception return for a touchdown.
