Our player of the week will be released tomorrow, but here are a couple of others who received serious consideration:
Esperanza's Chelsea Arnitz and Dana Holt.
The two juniors led the Aztecs to sweeps of Marina and Edison, all-but securing an automatic playoff spot.
Arnitz, an opposite, finished the two matches with a combined 24 kills and 3 blocks, and she hit .485, a week after spraining an ankle.
"Against Edison, she was phenomenal," coach Isaac Owens said. "They couldn’t stop her. And they were keying on her."
Holt, a setter, had 52 assists, 4 kills, 3 blocks and 4 aces for the week.
The Aztecs are tied with Newport Harbor for second place in the Sunset League at 4-2, but they likely need upsets of both the Sailors and Los Alamitos to finish above third. Esperanza lost in four games to both opponents, the first time around.
"We have some confidence," Owens said. "I definitely believe my girls believe they have a chance to beat ‘em."
