Football: Looking for the county's new No. 1 ... again

Does anybody want the No. 1 spot?

There were two games involving ranked teams and again, the top-ranked teamsuffered defeat. No. 1 Edison was defeated by No. 4 Los Alamitos and No. 2 Tesoro was victorious over No. 8 San Clemente.

Voting is due Monday morning. There are three teams I think should be considered for the top spot.

No. 2 Tesoro (7-0): Followed its victory over then-No. 1 Mission Viejo with a 28-23 victory over No. 8 San Clemente. The Titans are for real.

No. 4 Los Alamitos (7-0): The Griffins defeated No. 1 Edison, 23-19 Thursday. I voted Edison No. 1 in last week's poll. In my opinion, I think if Edison is healthy, it wins that game....THAT IS JUST MY OPINION.

No. 5 Orange Lutheran (6-1): The Lancers are one second-half meltdown away from being undefeated (losing to Bishop Amat back in Sept). Orange Lutheran defeated St. John Bosco, 34-21 Friday night. I was thoroughly impressed with the Lancers.

Those are the cadidates.

I'm not sure Orange Lutheran will get any first place votes. So, it will likely come down to the Barnes family. John at Los Alamitos and Brian at Tesoro.

I'm voting for Tesoro.

There you have it, sound off

Unless someone goes deep into the stats of each of the games, it's gotta be a coin toss at this point. They all deserve the honor

  • markt5005 says:

    How about St. Margaret's?

  • TartansLetRoll says:

I deeply agree with markt5005 (no sarcasm intended)

Damian, thanks for the love for the Titans of Tesoro. I think you meant to say the the Titans, not the San Clemente Tritons, who they beat, are for real. Actually, they both are for real, making the Tesoro road victory that much more impressive. They were also coming off a big victory, which typically is a set up for a letdown game, particularly on the road.
Note also that only one of the matchups between top ten teams resulted in an upset. Tesoro was ranked higher than S.C.

  • titan road victory? like they had to travel cross country? dont get used to it. tesoro has nothing after this year. while mission can still recruit better than ucla.

I think one thing you need to realize about O Lu is that they beat last year every one of these teams they play an extremely tough schedule no one seems to talk about that

  • Seal Beach Gary says:

Three excellent teams! The football genes obviously run strongly in the Barnes family, though! I've gotta go with a tossup between Los Al and Tesoro as far as the polls go! In a head -to-head matchup, the best player on the field would make the difference. Give that honor to Clark Evans! He's a beast ! I hope they meet in the semi-final round.

  • Lancers#1! says:

I really dont understand why you all would think no one would vote for orange lutheran! Dont you remember they were state champs just 2 years ago???!!! They have consistantly beat all the teams being ranked in the top 5. Lancers should be number 1 and get the credit they deserve!!

  • Jim H says:

Los Al beat ing Edison counts for little since they faced an Edison team plagued by injuries. Tesoro is for real but I doubt they would beat OLU, Servite or Mater Dei. Outside of an overrated Mission Viejo team that should have been ranked no better than 5th Tesoro hasn't played nearly as tough a schedule as the three teams from the Trinity league. Beating San Clemente showed Tesoro was for real but San Clemente was ranked 8th in the County. I have no doubt Tesoro will be ranked #1 and maybe they deserve to be until someone beats them but the power is still in the Trinity league.

  • T-Regime says:

Of course the power is still in the Trinity League...they are the best recruiters in Southern Cal. Not an equal playing field no matter what you say. That's why it is so beautiful to see them get beat by a public school. It doesn't happen often obviously, but when it does, I love it. Tesoro #1, Los Al a very close #2...two public schools that play fair.

  • Griffinsmom says:

Correct me- but only one of those injury riddled players did not actually play. Evans had a bum ankle so we had an injury to worry about too. At the Marina game , he could barely walk. Two years in a row we get no credit from you ( or the Chargers) for the W.

Barnes vs Barnes- wouldn"t that be a hoot.
