State supremacy will certainly be on the line later this afternoon as Southern California power El Toro takes in Northern California heavyweight Miramonte at 4:10 p.m. in a battle of undefeated teams in the final of the North-South Challenge in Atherton.
Yep, two undefeated squads are hooking up late October – that’s pretty rare for this sport.
El Toro is 22-0, ranked No. 1 in Orange County and CIF-SS Division I and champions of the South Coast and Villa Park tournaments.
Miramonte is 17-0, champions of S & R Sport Cup and John Schmitt tournaments.
Both squads feature U.S. junior national players.
“They look awful good,” El Toro coach Don Stoll said moments ago in a phone interview from Atherton.
El Toro advanced with an 11-8 victory of host Sacred Heart Prep while Miramonte rallied in the fourth period to edge Orange County’s No. 2-ranked team, Los Alamitos, 10-9.
