ANAHEIM -- Kennedy overcame three first-half turnovers to beat Loara, 41-28, in an Empire League game Thursday night at Glover Stadium.

The Saxons (5-2, 1-1) grabbed an early lead, 14-7, but the Irish (3-4, 1-1) scored 28 consecutive points.

“It was one we needed,” Kennedy coach Brit Johnson said. “We came to play tonight.”

Five of Kennedy’s touchdowns were on plays of 20 yards or more. The first was a 67-yard scoring pass from Andy Peterson to Tony Nunez that tied it at 7.

Peterson next scored on a 70-yard run to pull the Irish even again at 14.

Kennedy took a 21-14 lead into halftime on an 8-yard touchdown pass from Peterson to Jordan Collins.

After a scoreless third quarter, Kennedy pulled away on a 21-yard touchdown pass to Nunez and a 26-yard scoring run from White.

Kyle White ended the scoring with a 59-yard touchdown run. The last three times White carried the ball, he had runs of 59, 26 and 59 yards.

Loara went up, 7-0, when Marcus Meraz found Howard Gauta on a 3-yard strike. The Saxons regained the lead on a 45-yard scoring pass from Meraz to Jeremy Grass.

Meraz finished with 391 passing yards, but the Saxons committed three turnovers.

  • My mistake. It was a 44-yard touchdown pass. Jordan Collins is No. 8. That is where the confusion was.
    Thanks for the heads up.

Tony Nunez is a cocky fool. He is overrated. He can't cover any of the wide receivers and he gets trucked almost every game. Come on the Pacifica quarter back trucked him last year. Embarrassing.

what everyone doesnt understand is we got away from the run you cant pass pass and pass and expect to win games you need to mix it up but their are just coaches and then their are real coaches that love the game i agree kennedy is not that good but with coaches that dont know the game we are going to lose before we even play sad but true its up to the loara players to make it happen because thats all they got is themselves.
