GARDEN GROVE -- Paul Escamilla had two rushing touchdowns, and Gabriel Esquivel scored twice via the air in helping Santiago open Garden Grove League play Thursday night with a 35-7 victory over Rancho Alamitos at Bolsa Grande High.
Escamilla led the Cavaliers (5-1, 1-0) with 85 yards on the ground. He ran for a pair of 4-yard touchdowns as Santiago scored 14 points in each of the first two quarters to lead 28-7 at the break.
Esquivel, who had four receptions for 49 yards, caught a 5-yard scoring toss from Chris Ortega in the first quarter and then was on the receiving end of a 22-yard scoring pass from Harvey Alvaez to close the scoring in the third quarter.
Rancho Alamitos (2-4, 0-1) got on the board via a 14-yard scoring run by quarterback Mike Frank on the first play of the second quarter.
Juan Sanchez had the other Cavaliers touchdown, a 50-yard scoring reception from Alvaez.
Santiago held the Vaqueros to 130 yards and recovered three fumbles.
