The Calhoun Six to Watch: Mission Viejo vs. Tesoro

October 14th, 2008, 10:03 pm · 2 Comments · posted by Damian Calhoun, OCVarsity.com since 2004

No. 1 Mission Viejo (5-0) vs. No. 7 Tesoro (5-0)

Friday, 7:30 p.m., at Tesoro High

Outlook: What a game to open up the South Coast League season.

Payback will be on the minds of Mission Viejo as it tries to avenge last year’s loss to Tesoro. That was the first league loss for the Diablos since 1999.

We will finally learn how good both of these teams are.

The Diablos have been on a roll since the season started, putting up 48, 58, 38, 42 and 42 points this season.

Allan Bridgford has been unstoppable, completing 63.9 percent of has passes for 1,368 yards and 21 touchdowns. He has the one of the county’s top receiving tandems in Alex Mascarenas and Kevin Chandler.

The Titans have almost mirrored the Diablos’ start. Tesoro has blown out each of its first five opponents as quarterback Robbie Picazo has put up quality numbers (62 percent completion 1,081 yards and 12 touchdowns).

Preston King and Brett Gudim have combined for 48 catches and 11 touchdowns.

Will there be any defense played? Can Mission Viejo take back the South Coast League?

    One differance maker Alex Mascreranas….

  • MV Sports Fan says:

Tesoro’s offensive line, which features 3 300 lb. lineman vs. Mission Viejo’s defensive line. The team that controls the clock and turnovers will likely win. The unknowns, big plays and special teams.
