The Calhoun Six to Watch: El Dorado vs. Canyon

October 14th, 2008, 10:02 pm · 2 Comments · posted by Damian Calhoun, OCVarsity.com since 2004

El Dorado (1-4) vs. No. 21 Canyon (2-3)

Friday, 7 p.m., at Valencia High

Outlook: The Golden Hawks are the three-time defending Century League champions, but they haven’t look liked anything like a championship team during the nonleague part of their schedule.

El Dorado has failed to put together two consistent halves of football, and the result has been three close losses.

Can El Dorado get things turned around as it tries for a fourth consecutive league title? Or is it payback time for teams like Canyon?

If quarterback Kane Wilson (bruised shoulder) can stay healthy, that will give El Dorado the edge because he is the best quarterback in the league. However, injuries are the great equalizer.

The Comanches have lost the previous two meetings to El Dorado by a combined score of 77-6. Ouch.

Granted, those El Dorado teams had playmakers on both sides of the ball. That’s not the case now, but can the Comanches take advantage?

This is obviously a very disappointed player or parent which should be but will always reflect a coaching staff.
El Do could actually be the team in the league! The biggest issues I see with this team is that you have one of if not the best running backs in the league and only run him up the middle instead of passing and getting him outside and speaking of passing you have a very talented receiving crew but they won’t pass to them as needed the coaches would rather have their QB run almost every down!
As far as the defense goes, it’s about the same with exception to the Secondary. How many times do you let a team pass and run over them before you adjust your personel?
El Do has beaten every team in the first half but the coaching staff can’t or won’t adjust in the second half nor does it appear that they can adjust during the game as it has been proven.
This is a very good team, they just need some direction!

This maybe the closest Canyon will ever get there first league. I think they can pull it off, they know Wilson is hurt and this team is struggling, they will take advantage, they know this may might be the only chance until a few more years. I say Canyon takes this, then they have to worry about the other quiet teams that can also take this, El Modena isnt a team to take lightly, Villa Park is starting to win like the VP of old, Tustin actually may take a look at the title as well with Wilkerson running the offense and i wouldnt take Brea Olinda easy either, they could bring other team, like Canyon down. I say Canyon take this game in a close one, then Coach McKee and his boys finally get the monkey off there back and get the schools first league title. Best of Luck to Canyon! I got 1. Canyon 2. Tustin 3(t). El Dorado 3(t). Villa Park 5. El Modena 6. Brea Olinda
