No. 22 Corona del Mar (5-1) vs. No. 13 Laguna Hills (5-0)
Friday, 7 p.m., at Laguna Hills High
Outlook: Congratulations, CdM. After going 5-1 in nonleague games and climbing to No. 4 in the CIF Southern Division, you are rewarded with the opportunity to open your Pacific Coast League season at top-ranked Laguna Hills.
The Hawks have one of the county’s stingiest defenses, having held four of their first five opponents under 10 points.
The Hawks stymied Canyon and its big-play ability last week, limiting the Comanches to 130 yards.
Look for Derek Browning to carry the load on the offensive side of the ball for the Hawks. The senior has 639 yards in five games. He’s averaging 7.7 yards per carry.
CdM has responded well after a 42-13 loss to Newport Harbor on Sept. 23, by defeating Magnolia (27-6) and Villa Park (17-5). Now, here comes its next biggest test.
Will the Sea Kings be up for it?
Will anybody score?
