Frankly Fryer: Loara-Magnolia

LOARA (3-1) VS. MAGNOLIA (2-2)

Site, date, time: Western High, Thurs. Oct. 9, 7 p.m.

Outlook: Anaheim city public schools play each other a lot, either in league or nonleague, and this is another of those. Loara popped into the top 25 at the start of last week, but a few days later lost for the first time, to Anaheim, 24-21. Magnolia appeared to be picking up steam, too, with two straight victories before losing to Corona del Mar, 27-6, last week.

We have two productive running games in this one. Loara’s Anthony Bautista has rushed for 437 yards and averages 8 yards a carry. Magnolia’s Robert Cruz has rushed for 858 yards – second in the county to Fullerton back Michael Allain’s 872 – and averages 10 a carry. Both teams need victory after last week, but we like the Saxons’ chances better.

Winner: Loara
