IRVINE -- Laguna Hills put a hurting on another Sea View League team.
After beating Trabuco Hills by 20 points and El Toro by 26 points, the Pacific Coast League’s Hawks defeated Woodbridge, 45-9, Thursday night at Irvine High.
Laguna Hills (4-0) did so behind a standout performance from quarterback Robert Refsnyder. The senior, who is in his first year at the position, threw for 172 yards and a touchdown and ran for 53 yards and a score.
“He is real raw, but he is a good athlete and we are trying to get him better week after week,” Laguna Hills coach Bruce Ingalls said of Refsnyder. “It is all new for him. He is a great kid that works hard and you can’t ask for anything more.”
Refsnyder’s 45-yard touchdown pass to Austin Dimmler on the seventh play of the third quarter put the game out of reach, giving Laguna Hills a 24-0 lead.
And Refsnyder capped two Laguna Hills scores in a little more than a minute, after two Woodbridge turnovers, with a 10-yard run to make it a 38-0 game.
Woodbridge (0-4) played Laguna Hills tough early, limiting the Hawks to just a field goal in the opening quarter. But Laguna Hills got it rolling after that.
Laguna Hills went up, 17-0, on touchdown runs of 19 yards and 1 yard by Derek Browning in the second quarter.
Browning, who came into the game seventh in the county in rushing, finished with 83 yards on nine carries.
