Frankly Fryer: Los Alamitos-La Habra

NO. 4 LOS ALAMITOS (3-0) VS. LA HABRA (3-0)

Site, date, time: La Habra High, Fri. Oct. 3, 7 p.m.

Outlook: Another of those upper division-mid division battles that are so interesting. La Habra scored an impressive victory a couple of weeks ago over South Hills of Covina, but the Highlanders have not seen a team like Los Alamitos in a couple of years. The key to this game is how well La Habra can cover the Los Alamitos receivers, led by speedy and sure-handed Darryl Jenkins and Paul Richardson.

One way to help a secondary is to pressure the quarterback. Los Alamitos' offensive line likely is too good to let that happen, and Griffins quarterback Clark Evans can escape the pocket and run for first downs. Everyone knows about La Habra's Ronnie Hillman, who lines up at various places and is productive wherever the Highlanders put him and whenever he gets the ball. Lately, running back Josh Quezada has been just as sensational as Hillman. In the Highlanders' 52-7 victory last week over Westminster, Quezada had two rushing touchdowns, three receiving touchdowns and scored on a kickoff return. Los Alamitos, though, won't give up so many big plays.

Winner: Los Alamitos

well well well.... la habra thinks they are worthy of playin' with the big dogs huh??? well see after tommorrow night. i will personally be attending that game, and lets just say im expecting a lop-sided victory with la habra on the negative ends of things, lets just hope mazzotta can prove me wrong.

    sincerely,
    STUD

Los Al hasnt looked this impressive since 3 or four years ago, and LaHabra has never looked so good ever, so im expecting a hard nosed football game between two great o.c. football teams. fight on, CLAN PRIDE...!!!

  • Eias Sosa says:

You are out of your league La Habra, perhaps you should be playing Katella, Magnolia Garden Grove etc..Evans is the real deal and will be running and being Evans.....The only pit will be at the bottom of the La Habra faithfuls stomach

  • Guy says:

now come on lets be reasonalbe, magnolia? garden grove? why not just play a junior varsity team. now im not bashing on those teams or leagues, but did u not see la habras dismantle of westminister last week??? that westminister team dominates in its garden grove league. and la habra didnt even need yo use its super star ronnie hillman that much. now i do believe that losal is of better caliber than lahabra, however i do beleive that lahabra is a great competitor and rises to the occasion so i am looking forward too a great game. evans can run, but lahabras also got a versatile quarterback by the name of randall nygren whose waited his chance for three years to lead the varsity. lets not forget he was the starting safety for lahabra last year. now its his turn to shine and show orange county how he pars against the elite. bottom line is lahabra deserves to play this game, theyve earned it with a undefeated record stretching from last season to this one. lets see if losal can break the streak, or will lahabra bind together as one and overcome this giant that looks them in the eye...!!!

TOE TO TOE WITH THE BIG BOYS!

  • JERRI says:

I've been to EVERY LA HABRA FOOTBALL game in the last three years. I've sat through pouring down rain a couple of times and almost froze to death when we played Tesoro a couple of years ago. I don't have any kids on the team, cheer squad or the band but we go anyway because we LOVE LA HABRA FOOTBALL!!! We get together with friends and neighbors to support our city and the school. I give a lot of respect to Mazotta; he WANTS to take on Los Alamitos...so bring them on. LOS AL, just remember one thing your not just playing against the guys on the field you are coming up against LA HABRA FANS who love their TEAM.....

did any one even know lahabra had a football team before coach mazzotta was there??? didnt think so, most people didnt even know the city of lahabra had a highschool named after it. but thanks to coach mazzotta and his staff, he has morphed lahabra into somewhat of a power house, dominating any lower division school in its path. come on now katella??? magnolia??? did you people not see how lahabra rolled over a decent westminister team last week. lahabra owned them for four quarters, and you have the nerve to say they dont deserve a shot with goliath??? well than you football anylist, what does deserve a shot against the big boys??? cause in my opinion lahabra has every right to play against the top, because theyre just too good for any team in theyre division and league.

  • matray says:

if a 15 win streak over some legit opponents doesnt get you a title shot with the big boys than what does??? lahabra deserves this game more than any other d-7 team in the county and i personally believe that they will give losal a bit of a scare tonight. and maybe, just maybe lahabra will be seen as one of the up and coming teams that will one day dominate the southland, just as servite, mater dei, and losal do. lahabra isnt one of those teams that maybe every 5 or 10 years will have one good team that does well in the playoffs than years after they diminish, they are in the semi-finals every year, and if they arent its seen as a failure in the eyes of the highlander. losal maybe be bigger, tougher, and faster, but lahabra has two things that losal doesnt, heart and probably the greatest fans in all of orange county who love their clan...!!!
