I am responding to what you wrote in the comments on my football column at ocvarsity. com.
You wrote:
"(quoting Fryer here) Mission Viejo was No. 1 in last week’s media poll. I voted for Servite. The Friars lost by only one to Crespi of Encino, ranked No. 5 in California, and a one-point loss on the road to Crespi was superior, in evaluating teams’ quality, to Mission’s 38-14 road victory over La Costa Canyon of Carlsbad, which was No. 22 in California when it played Mission."
So do we get to hear from the other 10 geniuses in your poll? Or is this your way to try to get them to change their minds? Putting them on the spot? Or do you feel so jaded by them that 4 days after you announce your poll results, you have to distance yourself from them?
5 kids go and TP a house and get caught, you are the one sitting off to the side crying that you didn't want to do it! They MADE you do it!
Grow a SINE man, heck, just grow up!
My response:
I let people know how I voted because, judging from emails and voice mails and face-to-face contact, people want to know. It's a big deal to them, how Fryer voted. The readers are my bosses, so I give them what they want.
That's all there is to it. No agenda here.
As for growing a spine -- I put my real name behind my opinions all the time. That's being accountable and responsible. You post your opinions while hiding behind a pseudonym, and without checking the accuracy of your opinions. Now, who needs to grow a spine?
(maybe you really meant "sine" which I think is a geometry term? I can't remember!)
Thanks, and, as Lee Hamilton says: "Have yourself a great sports weekend!"

I don't always agree with Steve Fryers opinions (ex: Tustin vs. Marina boys basketball game last year - I think you know what I'm talking about Steve), but this is why I respect the man. He never hides from his opinion and even gives good reasons for them. This is my way of giving a fellow sports writer a standing ovation.
