No one can say we ignore the wishes of Orange County high school sports fans.

A couple of you expresses displeasure with the way we deliver the O.C. Top 10 for football --- though many said they liked the slide shows and Steve Fryer's comments. So here is the no frills version of the Top 10 for those who want it this way.

And if you want to check out the pictures or Fryer's comments later, click here to go to original version of the Top 10 and links to teams 11-25.

Here you go:

still don't understand why mission is ranked above edison!

  • Centennial of Corona will beat Concord De LaSalle in the state finals. Kudos to Centennial for playing their homegame at Santa Ana Bowl! Mater Dei will suffer four losses this year. C ya! Go Edison, go Marina!

  • OGbigGuy says:

OCVarsity took a poll, everyone voted Mission to be #1. If Edison is as good as you say. They need to handle there business. I think you missed a dose of you haterade pills. Chill lil guy. Let the teams play and they will determine where they need to be.

  • Jim Edward says:

K.O. We are ranked ahead of Edison because we are WAAAAAY better

  • Joe says:

Glad enough people complained about how the rankings were delivered. Too much hype and fluff before. Just give us the information!

  • SRO says:

When Servite beats Edison, you don't have to ask why Mission is ranked higher.

  • Even though I now live in Coeur d' Alene, Idaho , I can not stop following all of Steve Fryers articals on OC sports. He is a landmark individual and so interesting to read.
Keep up the great work Steve you are the best at what you do.
You even have kind words for my best friend Marjion Ancich.

So has anyone noticed yet that Steve Fryer and the OCRegister are all over Servite every year.... MD losses in a close one to a team that went to the state championship and is currently ranked top 25 USA Today and is pretty much a legit team... Servite falls to a good team as well but not as good a team as Centennial and Servite gets to keep thier spot at number 2..... So lets recap when MD WINS in overtime to a the runner up in the City Section they drop a spot... When Servite LOSSES to a Runner up they get to keep thier spot.... Hey steve how when you and Troy Thomas have lunch every monday who pays???

  • Jim Hazard says:

The three teams ranked under Mission would all beat them if they had the chance to play them. Mission beat a top 25 team and that makes them better than Servite Mater Dei and Edison? Go figure.

  • Street says:

These rankings make absolutely no sense when the Pac 5 rankings, "compiled from the votes of the CIF-SS coaches," are as follows:

    1. Long Beach Poly (Moore) 2-0

    2. Crespi (Serra) 3-0

    3. Edison (Sunset) 3-0

    4. Mission Viejo (South Coast) 3-0

    5. Mater Dei (Trinity) 2-1

    6. Orange Lutheran (Trinity) 2-1

    7. Servite (Trinity) 2-1

    8. Los Alamitos (Sunset) 2-0

Come on Fryer, Edison should be ranked No. 1! Mission Viejo's schedule is laugahble compared to Edison, Servite and Mater Dei.

  • STEVE FRYER, ocvarsity.com says:

It is still very early and very difficult to sort out the top 10. Yes, if Mission Viejo was playing a more demanding schedule, that would help. Generally, MV takes on a challenging nonleague schedule, so it is possible teams are ducking MV. I always hear coaches say "Nobody will play us" but if you have two coaches saying that, maybe their teams can play each other. Hmmm?

  • STEVE FRYER, ocvarsity.com says:

A clarification ... Mater Dei was No. 1 in the Register's preseason top 10. That was pretty much my selection. But when the poll of our 11 voters was tallied, most of the voters disagreed with my assessment and had Orange Lutheran at No. 1. That's why MD dropped from our preseason No. 1 after beating Carson. Does that sort of make sense? I hope so.

  • iy60fy67 says:

FRYER! What are you thinking? How is Edison not number one after killing everyone they have played, Servite and Mater Dei both loosing and Mission playing such an easy schedule? Do you even go to any high school football games or do you just look at your papers and play guessing games? You know and I know that Edison should be number one and they are going to beat Servite easily and Mater Dei is the joke of Orange County after barely beating Carson on National Television! Go Chargers!!!

  • GE_KRUEGER says:

I said this last week before kickoff; Sack Up or Pack Up! MD was handed a brutal loss, Servite made mistakes, and MV is #1. Who has the toughest schedule this year? It doesn't matter. Bottom line is the W vs L column and you better have more "W" at the end of the year.
What I would like to see is one of the So Cal programs to come on out to AZ and play in 105 at kickoff on a Friday night. AZ football isn't OC Football but the kids are tough. Check out Desert Vista or Hamilton on Rivals. I love OC Football, but I respect the kids out here playing in this oven.

  • Deefend says:

The Top Ten is the Top Ten.... It is what it is" every week. Please allow Steve Fryer and the OC Register Staff do it's job. Because in the end, for any team to go deep into the play-offs from the Top Ten..... will be playing teams from the PAC-5 So after the first round of the play-offs ..we all can shoot our mouths off. So let the Top ten take care of it self. Come play-off time, then we will know who is the BEST!

  • haha says:

stop hatin on mission. wait till C.I.F when they do play all the teams you think are better then them and they some out on top.

  • Jim Edward says:

Mission Viejo is the most balanced team in CIF. They can pass and run and nobody has been able to stop them and i don't think that will happen. they have their # 1 ranking.

  • huh says:

    Jim,

Where was the balance when the team played in Hawaii and why is Kessman not carrying the ball anymore?

    I await your answer

  • Jim Edward says:

I don't coach the team, so I can't answer that question except to say that the Marshall kid is pretty good and probably the better of the 2.

  • Edison? says:

i love how Servite beat Edison. Now all u optimistic Edison fans can shut ur mouths about Edison not being #1.

  • friar fan says:

I wish everyone would take a deep breathe about the the top 10. At the end the of season it will be what it is. Mission Viejo might be balanced as a team, but who have they really played????? They are number one just because they are breaking records at their own high school. Well, the season is not over yet!

  • Hey Friar Fan: Wait until Mission plays you in the playoffs and we will see how good they are. Quit your complaining about who plays who. Everyone plays the schedule they are given and Mission has left them all in the dust

  • BFF08 says:

Mission is # 1 and will remain that way. Eat your hearts out.

  • BFF2008 says:

Mission is not out to break records they are out to win games and they take what the other teams give them

  • friar fan says:

Hi Football Fan.........until Servite played Edison, Edison was also scoring high against who they were scheduled with. Then Servite came along and their high scoring went out the door.
I really doubt the Mission Viejo would be scoring high games against OL,MD, Servite, or anyone in the top 10 in the State or County! Let be fair and wait to see what happens in the play offs.....also football teams do play the schedule they are given, but the football Coaches make up the schedule on who they will play in pre-season ball....good luck.
