COSTA MESA — Calvary Chapel (2-1) earned its second victory of the season with a 28-12 triumph over La Quinta (0-2) in nonleague play Thursday night at Orange Coast College.

Each team returned a kickoff  for a touchdown. La Quinta’s Tyler Andreen went  89 yards midway through the second quarter to cut the Aztecs’ deficit to 14-6.

The Eagles’ Brandon Perez countered with an 86-yard touchdown on the opening kick of the second half to make it 21-6.

Perez, a sophomore, had  124 yards on 26 carries. He also intercepted a pass and just missed another.

Nathan Do’s 7-yard touchdown reception brought the Aztecs to 21-12 with 7:35 left in the third quarter.

However, Perez’s 14-yard scoring run pushed Calvary Chapel’s lead back to 28-12 with 2:34 to play.

The Eagles went ahead 14-0 in the first half on touchdown passes of 9 and 19 yards by Daniel Fierro.
