


Mater Dei quarterback Matt Barkley needs only 120 yards tonight against Cypress to become the fifth county passer to reach 7,000 career passing yards.
Here’s my math: after consulting Mr. Steve Fryer before the Monarchs’ season-opener last week against Carson, we at ocvarsity.com decided to use Mater Dei’s reported career stats on the USC commit. The stats from the Mater Dei and the OC Register only differed by about 30 yards (we were higher). And the fact that Mater Dei has a great stat crew, it was a smooth decision.
So entering his senior season, Barkley had 6,579 yards, according to Coach Bruce Rollinson. The reigning Gatorade national player of the year threw for 301 yards against Carson, raising his total to 6,880.
