Frankly Fryer: Marina-Capistrano Valley

September 10th, 2008, 2:57 pm · · posted by

MARINA (0-0) VS. CAPISTRANO VALLEY (0-0)

Site, time: Capistrano Valley High, Friday 7 p.m.

Outlook: These teams struggled in league play last year, with Marina going 0-5 in the Sunset League and Capistrano Valley going 1-3-1 in the South Coast. It is going to be difficult for either to finish in the top half of their standings this year, too, so they have to get those victories where they can. This game represents a good opportunity for both. Marina returns four starters on offense and four on defense – that’s not a lot – but the good news is that the Vikings could be good at the skill positions and their defense could be quicker and stronger than in recent years. Capistrano Valley needs to be better defensively – the Cougars allowed 31 points a game in league last year – and should benefit from stability at quarterback where junior Brandon Brennan will start. This could be a close one.

Winner: Capistrano Valley
