Top 25 countdown: No. 5

August 27th, 2008, 12:02 am · 6 Comments · posted by STEVE FRYER, ocvarsity.com

Edison5. Edison (8-4 in 2007) — This team is known for throwing the ball, but it might use the running game quite a bit more this year. That still should translate to plenty of victories for the Chargers, who shared the Sunset League championship with Esperanza last year.

The Chargers should be defensively strong, too, with all-league first-team returnees Will Andrew at defensive end and Preston Spence at linebacker. Andrew had 55 tackles and five sacks in 2007. Spence had 81 tackles and five sacks.

Receiver/cornerback Jeff Crissman is a fine two-way player. He had 40 receptions, and three interceptions.

Pssst! Dumbed Down….don’t look now but your stupid is showing.

No, not down there. Up here — on the comments screen.

You’re blasting Fryer for revealing one school per day in this countdown. Actually, Double D, they’re revealing TWO a day (that’s one more than one).

Today, they revealed Nos. 3 & 4. Yesterday it was Nos. 5&6. The day before that it was Nos. 7&8.

I won’t spoil the surprise by telling you what numbers they’re gonna reveal tomorrow. (OK, here’s a hint: It’s the same numbers you got on your SAT.)

    Go Raiders!

    Bolting to the top.

Hey bigtank, maybe you forgot how to spell. It’s “Servite.” And just to clarify, it’s a school that beat Edison last year. No reason it shouldn’t have been ranked higher last year. Maybe come the Servite-Edison game, they’ll overtake your ranking. Oh, and a big victory over Clovis West tonight…..
