8. Newport Harbor (8-4) – The Sailors bring back 12 starters – six on offense, six on defense – from a team that finished third in the Sunset League and upset Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks in the first round of the Pac-5 Division playoffs.

Quarterback Andrew McDonald, left, completed 100 of 157 passes (64 percent) for 1,510 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2007. Receiver J.B. Green caught 40 for 778 and 10 touchdowns, and averaged 20 yards a reception.

An emerging star is receiver/linebacker Cecil Whiteside, who caught 14 passes and had 69 tackles last season. Another linebacker, Brandon Kula, had 56 tackles.
