22. Western (9-2-1) – The Pioneers bring back one of the county’s top all-around players, junior running back/linebacker Ruben Ortega who was Orange League player of the year in 2007.

He rushed for 1,410 yards and 18 touchdowns, averaging 9 yards a carry, and had 122 tackles. Derek Orman, left, an All-CIF defensive back who also played running back in ’07, takes over at quarterback. All-league returnee Mookie Cooksie rushed for 518 yards. The Pioneers should be strong along the defensive line, too.
