OC Varsity ~ High school sports talk by the staff of the Orange County Register

Updated: Clark Evans to play ... defensive end?

August 20th, 2008, 11:16 am · 7 Comments · posted by DAN ALBANO, ocvarsity.com

Yes, that is correct.

According to coaches at Los Alamitos, the standout quarterback will play defensive end in some passing situations this fall. Sounds like an injury risk to me, but Evans is a physical force who could make an impact.

The Griffins struggled rushing the passer in 2007. So now, Evans – a Colorado commit – is not just a dual-threat with the ability to run and pass, he is a triple-threat on the football field.

What's next? Matt Barkley playing safety for the Monarchs?

    Hey;
    Speaking of Los Al, does everyone know that all the Griffin home games will be played at Gahr High in Cerritos with the exception of the Edison game. Supposedly Barnes felt Gahr had more of a homefield advantage as it is a smaller facility.

    Evans also is a fine basketball player, too. As you would expect from a football player, he is a heck of a rebounder. Evans also is a decent shooter. He plays with an all-out attitude.

  • If Coach Barnes does it, it must be the right call.

    So you want to know what Matt Barkley is up to next.
    He is going to play water polo for MD this year.
    He'll be in the pool next Monday morning.
    Check it out.

    Evans should not play defence at all if los al wants to win game they want to keep there qb healthy if they put him at d-end he will end up getting hurt.

    Evans is one of the best athletes in OC. He is strong and suprisingly fast for his size and weight. He is the obvious emotional leader of both football and basketball teams. Not many others can do everything he does in both sports

  • Football Paul says:

    What a risk. The odds of him getting injured are minimal and overall it might be a good move but I wouldn't do it. One crack back block or back peddaling OL that stumbles into him and there goes his (insert appropriate injury). I am sure the Buff's aren't happy to hear this.
