OC H.S. Sports

Here’s a little more info on this Sonora team, which I had the pleasure of covering this past season. The girls water polo team’s CIF Division VI title was significant for a few reasons. Sonora doesn’t have a big tradition in terms of CIF titles and girls sports. These girls broke down some major barriers. The school had never placed a water polo team — boys or girls — into the CIF finals before the season and these girls won on a dramatic last-second goal. And finally, these players were true high school players. The Raiders didn’t have a huge club presence. These girls developed in high school under Coach Jason Wilson and were a great story. I have much respect for Laguna volleyball but this one is easy, folks — click Sonora!
