Orange Lutheran loses CIF track title two days after meet

May 19th, 2008, 3:17 pm · · posted by

The CIF-Southern Section just announced that a disqualification error Saturday was fixed today, and Crespi of Encino had moved past Orange Lutheran to win the CIF boys Division III track and field championship.

The Lancers had claimed the championship Saturday at Mt. San Antonio College, but the CIF-SS ruled that Crespi’s Mark Watley incorrectly was disqualified in the 400. Paul Castillo, the CIF-SS assistant commissioner who oversees track and field, ruled that a mistake was made.

Watley was reinstated, awarded the 400-meter championship and added enough points to Crespi’s total to give his team the championship, especially since Orange Lutheran lost points in the event when Watley was reinstated.

Crespi finished with 59 points, and Orange Lutheran had 48.
