The baseball and softball playoffs continue with several good matchups today.

SOFTBALL
Edison at Trabuco Hills, 3:15 p.m.
Division I
Outlook: Sophomore Kayla Massey pitched a two-hitter to shut out then-No. 1 El Toro in last week’s regular-season finale. The Mustangs are capable of making a deep run in the playoffs, but first they have to get past the Chargers. Trabuco Hills is very familiar with Edison, which has a deceiving 10-16 record that includes quality victories over Marina and Esperanza. Trabuco Hills needed a two-run double by Julianne Mendonca in the bottom of the 10th to overcome Edison on April 5 in the Woodbridge/Victory Softball Classic. — Carlos Arias

BASEBALL
Trabuco Hills at Orange, 3:15 p.m.

Outlook: This is a CIF-Southern Section Division II first-round playoff game. Trabuco Hills (14-13) is the No. 2 team from the Sea View League. The Mustangs won three in a row before losing to Northwood in their regular-season finale. Trabuco’s John O’Dea is batting .373 with 20 RBIs. Rob Bolstad also has driven in 20 runs for the Mustangs. Orange is the No. 1 team from the Golden West League. The Panthers finished strong, winning their final six regular-season games including a two-game sweep of Ocean View last week. Orange pitcher Kody Farrel is 8-1 with a 1.76 ERA and 73 strikeouts in 71 2/3 innings. The Panthers’ Travis Chapman is batting .449 with 25 RBIs, and Steven Garber is batting .429 with 28 RBIs. The winner plays the Dos Pueblos-Palos Verdes winner in the second round Tuesday. – Steve Fryer

Ocean View at El Toro, 3:15 p.m.
Outlook: Ocean View (14-13)  will try to bounce back from losing twice to Orange last week, in this Division II first-round game. The Seahawks could have kept the Golden West League championship to themselves with a victory in either game, but instead they shared the league title with the Panters. Ocean View’s Scott Baxter is batting .393 with 24 RBIs, and Sean Burleson has a team-high 29 RBIs. Burleson also is 6-4, and Baxter is 5-5. El Toro (20-7) lost two of its final three regular season games, but still won the Sea View League championship. The Chargers’ Nolan Arenado is batting .453 with 24 RBIs. Michael Barnhill is batting .393 with four home runs and 35 RBIs. El Toro pitcher Chad Thompson is 8-3 with a 1.56 ERA and 95 strikeouts in 72 innings. The winner plays the Temescal Canyon-Crescenta Valley winner in the second round Tuesday. – Steve Fryer
