The fact that this ballot is this lopsided already shows that internet voting has serious flaws. Also, what is the deal with Dan Albano's comment. Not only is the comment vague, understated, and unflattering considering Anderson's accomplishments, but there is a misspelled word that has not been corrected in a week and a half. I'm not impressed. Also, when you compare the 2 statements, they are not equitable in the least. Fryer really describes who Williams is, lists his accomplishments, and makes a case for Williams. Albano comment is wasted. THAT was the best comment about the OC Player of the Year that the OCVarsity staff could come up with?

  • Jason says:

Hey Matt, this is "Athlete of the Year". What other sports is Mr. Anderson involved in? It's an honest question. In regards to Mr. Williams, I've seen his name in headlines for several different sports, from fall to spring. Give credit where credit is due, Fryer has more to comment on than Dan Albano for a reason. Good Luck Rebel!

  • excuse me says:

This is "Athlete of the Year", so how do you determine who is better in between sports? is it whoever plays the most sports or whoever is the best at their sport? I agree wiht the first comment, the online voting system is ridicoulous because whoever has the biggest family wins. the best guy in his own sport should win, anyone can sign up for three sports that are relatively similiar and do good in all three...

  • Jason says:

Sorry 'excuse me', not everyone can sign up for 3 sports, similar or not, and do well in all three. In case you didn't notice, Williams also played basketball and did well in the sport. I ask again, what other sports did Anderson play? If his focus was Basketball, and only basketball, than my vote remains with Williams. Why do you think Barkeley was knocked out in the first round? He was a 'single sport' athlete.

  • Miss Rebel says:

Dominique Williams has proven himself all 4 years of high school. Sorry haters but go rebels!

  • Matt Curtis says:

Anderson also started for the Canyon volleyball team and was its 2nd best player and one of the best in the league, despite having never played before. While he is a good enough athlete to play other sports, he decided to focus on one and he dominates at it. He was good enough to play for the US Junior National Select Team, but is being blown out in O.C. athlete voting because he only played one featured sport. It doesn't make sense. He should win....he won't...but he should.

  • Bryan says:

I agree with Matt Curtis. Although Williams is involved in more sports than Anderson, Anderson is actually going far with his talent in basketball. Everybody reads and hears about how he is "UCLA-bound" and what not. I haven't really read or heard that much about Williams. And also, you should keep in mind the league and division that each player plays in. The difficulty of Savanna's schedule probably isn't as hard as Canyon's (Basketball). And Anderson pretty much led the whole team to the quarter finals of CIF by himself, no offense to the other players on the team. I don't know what all of you would consider "Athlete of the Year" material, but I would definitely choose quality over quantity (seeing as how some of you think Williams should win since he's played more sports than Anderson).

  • Jason says:

I don't mean to belittle his accomplishments, but we are looking for an Athlete of the Year here. Williams has proven he can dominate more than one sport.

  • Tom Shields says:

all the guys put up for this award are great athletes who all "deserve" to win. but lets face it, this is a popularity contest...

  • Bryan says:

I've been to a Savanna basketball game where Dominique was playing. Despite the win, I wasn't very impressed. I heard nothng but how good he was since freshman year. But I came out a bit disappointed after the game. After that game, I rushed over to catch Canyon's game against Mater Dei. And despite the loss, I was very impressed with how Anderson still carried the team. Even though Canyon lost, he still scored the most points out of everyone in that game. What I am trying to say is that anyone can dominate in a sport when the competition isn't much competition at all. I doubt Dominique and the Rebels would stand a better or even an equal chance against Mater Dei's squad. Canyon is at the Division I level whereas Savanna is only at the Division IV. The only reason I bring up basketball is because it is the only sport they have in common.

  • Jason says:

I agree with Tom, at the end, this is just a popularity contest. Just look at the other male contest ; ). You can't really hold it against Williams for playing in a division lower than Anderson's. That's where he lives. I honestly thought the "higher division" argument would have been thrown in sooner. Don't forget this award is given for accomplishments in the 2007-2008 school year, not for accomplishments that may happen after they graduate. Good luck to both.

  • Miss Rebel says:

Can't gage athlete of the year off of one game or league someone plays in. It should be peer sportsmanship in all sports. I'm sticking with Dominique Williams proven year after year to be the best at what he does. By the way I don't think Mater Dei would blow out Savanna in a basketball game that's for sure!

  • Jason says:

Miss Rebel, I agree 99.9% of what you are saying. The .1% is your last line. My vote also remains with the Savanna Rebel.

  • Christy says:

    Run BOY, RUN!!!

  • Rebel Chick says:

GO D-MO!! You deserve it! The best I have seen all four years at Savanna... if you don't vote for Dominique... you must be crazy! 3 sports verse one... how can there be any competition??

  • nuts says:

    Congrats!!!
    Im proud of you.
