BOYS TENNIS
CIF-Southern Section Division I playoffs, first round
Los Alamitos vs. Mater Dei at Los Caballeros Tennis Club, 3 p.m.
Outlook: The Griffins run into a Monarchs team that is running on all cylinders. Both teams met earlier this season in
a nonleague match during a break during league play. Mater Dei beat Los Alamitos, 14-4, at Los Caballeros Tennis Club in Fountain Valley. Chris Freeman and Charlie Alvarado should sweep at No. 1 and 2 singles, unless of course Coach Marian Danse decides to pair them together at doubles or split them into another doubles team. Los Alamitos’ Derek Sidiqui will lead the Griffins at the No. 1 spot. — Miguel A. Melendez
BOYS GOLF
CIF team finals, Candlewood Country Club, 8 a.m.
Outlook: Sunny Hills, Brea Olinda, Servite, Tesoro and Los Alamitos are the only OC schools remaining. Today, they will be among 16 teams competing for four slots in the SoCal Championships. — Jonathan Kay
