The funeral service for FAST swim coach Kevin Perry will be this coming Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. at the Muckenthaler Cultural Center http://www.themuck.org/ in Fullerton.

The visitation will be Tuesday from 1-9 p.m. at McAulay & Wallace Mortuary http://www.mcaulaywallace.com/in Fullerton.

I hope a ton of swimmers and their parents come show their respect for Coach Perry. He gave so much and deserves a strong turnout.

I received news of Kevin's passing this last Friday and have been deeply saddened ever since. Kevin was simply a great man. I had the rare privalege of swimming at FAST when Kevin took over the reigns as Head Coach. At the time I did not know what to make of the man. But, as time elapsed I quickly realized he was more than a swim coach, he was a life coach, building not just great swimmers but champions in life.
When he took over FAST in desparate times, Kevin convinced me to coach the beginning swimmers a few nights a week. I remember his kind words and guidance in my first year of coaching. I am now the Head Coach for Crimson Tide Aquatics and teach Mathematics at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, AL (Kevin had always told me combine Math and swim coaching). I am the coach and person that I am due in part to Kevin's wisdom and passion he had for the developing the people he came into to contact with.
The one memory (is humurous) that I will always remember would like to share (others may have the same) was his love for golf! I remember Kevin standing in his golf stance on that hill at Independance Park swinging at imaginary golf balls while we were swimming sets. I thought he was crazy. But now that I coach I fully understand. RIP Kevin Perry.

From the movie "The Guardian" (a movie about the Coast Guard and swimming, starring Kevin Costner) Does a man become a legend because of how he lived his life or by how he is remembered after he dies?

I know I will forever be grateful for Kevin's influence on my two boys. Thank you Coach for their dreams, their confidence, even their friends and so much more.

    Your friend, Lynn

My family and I are greatly saddened to hear about Kevin's passing. I met Kevin when he first taught me to swim at the age of 7 back in Mountain View, CA - Kevin was about 18. At the time he was the tallest person I had ever met and could eat more glazed donuts than I had ever seen consumed!!

All my earliest childhood memories involved swimming, the Mountain View Dolphins, and my Coach Kevin Perry. He was the person who most influenced me as a kid - taught me to be confident in my abilities - and to never give up. Though Kevin moved on to another team when I was in my early teens I met up with my friend and Coach again at Foothill College in Los Altos where he was coaching the college swim team.

Unfortunately we lost touch after that but from all I have read he went on to do what he loved - influencing and mentoring young people. He was an amazing person and will be missed.

    Aloha Kevin!!
