OC Varsity ~ High school sports talk by the staff of the Orange County Register

LIVE COVERAGE OF SOUTH COAST APPEAL: 1 pm

I'll be providing updates from the league's appeal meeting today at the CIF-SS office in Los Al. The league is appealing its placement in the Pac-5 Division for football. Please join me in following what should be a interesting meeting. I'm preparing to hear some private vs. public debate, too. Last season, all three of the South Coast League playoff teams fell to Trinity League schools in the first-round of Pac-5 playoffs: Tesoro got MD; Mission Viejo got OLu and SC got Servite.

In 2006, the first-round pairing were: MV (LosAl); SC (OLu) and Dana Hills (Notre Dame/SO). The only winner: MV crushed LosAl and then was upset by Santa Marg. in the quarterfinals.

That's 1-6 in the Pac-5 the past two seasons for the South Coast League. Of course, MV has been playing DLS for several seasons now and the CIF folks will look at that and say, SCL stop whining. MV is not playing DLS this season but there is talk of the schools hooking up again in 2009.

And don't forget about the scheduling habits of a few other South Coast League teams recently (by former head coaches, of course) -- Dana and Tesoro each played OLu last season. Dana has been playing Loyola.
