Brea Olinda has relieved boys and girls water polo coach Sean Harren of his duties, principal Jerry Halpin confirmed Thursday.
In the winter, Harren guided Brea Olinda’s girls team to a 22-8 record and an appearance in the CIF-SS Division II playoffs. The Wildcats lost in the first round to eventual semifinalist Laguna Beach.
Halpin said Harren was asked to resigned but decided not to.
“After a postseason meeting, we decided to go in another direction with both programs,” Halpin wrote in an e-mail. “Coach Harren did a wonderful job for us the past three seasons and the teams were very successful. We hope to continue that success.”
Harren has been one of the most successful water polo coaches in Southern California. He guided the Rowland boys to six CIF-SS Division VI titles, including four in a row from 1997-2000.
In the fall, Brea’s boys finished 18-11 and fell in the first round of the Division II playoffs to Arlington.
Harren said he is unsure of his coaching future. He has several strong coaching ties, including one with Corona del Mar coach Barry O’Dea.
